AA breakdown cover...

...my girlfriend just called me...she's been waiting since 18.40 for the AA to come and rescue her.

The car lost all power when she was on the way down to see me, trundling along the motorway. She also managed to locker her keys in the car...she's a smart cookie my lass. :p She had a blonde moment (allowed she is blonde).

She's sat on the bank of the motorway since then, in the peeing rain. The AA's computer system has gone down, so they don't know when the guy will get there, and IF someone is infact on their way. A passing traffic cop did push her off the motorway a bit more, to make it safer, and gave her a poncho thing to keep the rain off her...about one or two hours after being sat in the rain.

So I'll not get to see her this evening/weekend :( and god knows what's wrong with her car...what amazes me is that the AA can lose her system on a busy weekend evening, just makes me wonder how many other people in the SouthWest have been affected by this and are stuck just like my girlfriend.

...bloody cars...bloody AA...that's why I'm with the RAC...they always do me well :)

That's a bit off form for the AA. They are normally really good, I'd put in a complaint about that :(

Well I don't know where she is, other than on the M5 between mine and hers. Her mum is with her (as my girlfriend doesn't actually have cover - she has a Renault Clio...she needs her own cover :p).

I would go pick her up...but the problem is that my 205 is rather dodgey in the wet, the back end doesn't like the road all that much :eek: ...pulled up at home the otherday and nearly lost the back end...at about 5mph!

Plus mum bought some ditchfinders for the front :rolleyes:

Oh yeh, and I have no money, so can't afford the fuel...and not forgetting, it's warm and dry in here, and I have 't eh interwebz'...but not in the car :p

It's about an hour drive, just to the motorway from here...then probably another 45mins (at least) to where she is...then I have to come off, and back on the correct direction, then there's the fact her mum is there with her, who has the AA card.

Oh, and I'm no hero...and I'm shatterd from a long week of hard work :(

If she hadn't called her mum before she called me the first time, I'd have gone up there, the weather was wet, but not too bad, now it's simply minging. And I'd have had the RAC out and she'd be on her way again in like 30mins :p

The main one being this...I'm lazy...plus I don't properly trust the 205...no point in going to rescue her and needing rescuing myself. :p

I'm actualy between Launceston and Okehampton, so less far to travel, but it doesn't matter, she's on the way home (her's, not mine) now, the alternater packed up...she did say the battery died...makes sense really. French car + alternater = alternater troubles :p

It is a nice easy road, I admit, but driving to and from Okehampton this week the car has felt really rather odd, so I'd rather just stay put. I need to get some alloys on the 205, then I can get some expensive tyres (with what money) and it'll feel safer...oh and I need to get the rear suspension setup looked at. I'm after a set of 205 gti alloys...1.6 or 1.9 ones...for free ideally. :p

Yeah she's been sorted, AA man gave the alternator a whack and it's ok to get it back to hers.

My 205 is reliable...just I don't trust the tyres...and the suspension on the rear is a little strange...put any weight in the back and it makes strange noises on corners.

I would definately complain about that. Two women stuck on the motorway, locked out of the car in the rain should be a very high priority. So their computer system went down - that is not your / her problem. Computer systems go down, it is the nature of the world, so you have a backup manual system. I would ask them what their backup system for when the computers fail is, and why it was so useless.
