AA breakdown cover...

i've always found the AA to be very good. when my mum broke down just outside Manchester they towed her all the way home to south london.

Nothing good about that, Its what she paid for! I wouldnt expect anything less, unless I only had the cheapo AA package. Which is Roadside I think and the furthest you can be taken is home or a dealer/garage whichever is nearest.

problem. Computer systems go down, it is the nature of the world, so you have a backup manual system. .

no doubt the manual system involves manually ringing every single engineer and giving them job over the phone. Take into account hes then going to have to write everything down as he's given it, hes not going to have any GPS co-ordinates to work from either, just a rough location

i can see why it took so long. From a human point of view, if its not something you've ever done, your not exactly going to be quick and efficient with it.

and i bet the road side engineers arent used to working with rough locations either. Normally the system pulls the GPS co-ordinates automatically from the phone system. I can imagine lots of "well im on a road, somewhere near .." calls that would normally get sorted without problem.

I honestly wouldnt argue its a case for complaint. So the systems went down and they werent as fast as usual. Its just unfortunate it happened to be raining while it happened.

I would definately complain about that. Two women stuck on the motorway, locked out of the car in the rain should be a very high priority. So their computer system went down - that is not your / her problem. Computer systems go down, it is the nature of the world, so you have a backup manual system. I would ask them what their backup system for when the computers fail is, and why it was so useless.

Yeah, it really is bad service, personally I'd complain, but I doubt her or her mum will bother...and I'm not going to push for them to do it either.

I've always seen the AA to be a bad service...when my mum breaks down she normally is all byherself, or has some kids with her, and you'd have thought that they'd rush to a woman with a load of kids in distress....oh no they take hours to get to her.

As for my tyres, the wheels on the car at the moment are 13" steel wheels, and I see no point in buying expensive tyres for it. It's safe enough as it is, especially for short journeys and the like. Which is why I want to get a new compelte set of wheels (alloys and tyres).

You get what you pay for. Granted two woman on the motorway should have the highest priority and does. However you dont know what circumstances the nearest AA patrols were under. They could have already been dealing with lengtly cases.

The AA does prioritise, and Im a firm believer they treat the customers who spend more differently.

On my personal AA account I had to wait 2.5 hours for an the AA when I broke down, and when I broke down in the S.France well the whole operation was shoddy from start to finish.

On my AA account with my company car (Corporate cover) I usually get the AA within an hour and a half max. I've called them out quite a few times and its always been quick.

nah thats co-incidence

im on the cheapest policy going, no home start or relay or anything. Ive called the AA out about 4 times in total, never been more than 90 minutes. 3 of them were in about an hour !

I've only ever had roadside cover with the RAC, and when I blew the head in my previous car, 50miles from home, they towed it home for me. :)
