got 2 6950's that really struggle with this setting turned onto x4. even if all other setting are on low it struggles. this a ati issue or is it universal?

I have a single 6950 that manages everything in ultra with 4x AA and it runs perfect. I'm sure a pair of 6950's would have no issue unless your running a crazy res. Are you feeding them enough juice ?

What exactly do you mean by perfect? All cards take a major impact with 4xMSAA - it's an engine limitation, something to do with the deffered lighting system the game uses (other games using this type of lighting have this problem with AA).

On my 580, playing on packed 64 man servers at 1920x1080 with ultra settings, but defferred AA disabled, I get over 60 fps most of the time. With 4xMSAA enabled, the fps drops below 50 fps quite frequently. It's easily playable, but not what I'd call perfect, especially in multiplayer where every fps counts. Plus, post-processing AA at high is good enough that I don't think proper MSAA is needed in this game, unless you like stopping randomly mid game to look at your pixels. :p

This is the settings I have 4x msaa or whatever is the highest I can go.. At these settings it is lovely and smooth no slowdown and multiplayer runs fine even 64 player maps...

yeah on my 580 i get below 50fps frequently when all maxed and 4xmsaa even on 2xmsaa i still drop below 50fps when it gets really mental...

get fraps and see what fps you are getting mate...

tho bf3 feels smooth at 30fps...

You Nvidia guys need 2GB Vram.. :D

Not really bothered if its 30 or 100fps tbh. It is lovely and smooth and runs perfect online. Me being naturally rubbish at the game is the main reason for my low kill count...:D

MOOGLEYS, try playing with vsync off, deffered AA disabled and motion blur switched off - helped boost my kill counts considerably and I didn't really notice any major loss in image quality.

Game runs fine with them on. I'm old and slow is my problem, by the time I have seen someone they have usually spotted me and gunned me down. My reactions are to slow compared to all the Hyper young people... :D

@MOOGLEYS, I have tried BF3 on a single 6950>70 with everything on ultra@1080p and felt pretty much the same, I was surprised myself that it's very playable indeed.

@op, your 6950's in CrossFire should play BF3 on ultra@1080p no problems, what res are you playing at and what's the rest of your specs?

On 1080p 6950 CrossFire, everything on Ultra +4xMSAA, smooth as butter and it doesn't go below 60fps at all for me running on this setup:

Amd 6950>70 Crossfire
2500K@ 4.5GHz
MSI Z68A-GD55-G3
16GB Corsair Vengeance Red 1866 Mhz(Windows Pagefile is disabled)
128GB Crucial M4-Windows
120GB Corsair Force 3-BF3

Reading this makes me want to add another 6950 and go for crossfire. I can run ultra, but i have to keep aa off.

Interesting read, shows that more than 1GB VRAM is required for ultra settings and that the I7 with HT is significantly faster than the i5. Who would have thought that in a game. Had a I read this first I might have just bought an I7 instead!

Also shows the Phenom Quads are definte frame rate limiters which is exactly what I saw with my old S775 Quad.

Finally a decent multiplayer review.
