AA deffered in BF3

As a comment I benchmarked a single 560Ti 2GB @ ultra on a I5 4.5Ghz. Average 42fps, min 35fps after 11mins of bombs, explosions and death.

Totally playable and without the fps in the corner I wouldn't of suspected it was anything other than smooth though the high setting does seem more fluid than ultra as expected, Ultra was fine.

The FPS counter is a double edged sword.

On your point of being to slow at BF3 because your getting on in life (like myself, 41 next friday!:eek:shhhhhh, don't let on you know!:D) you should get into the tanks man on OP Firestorm, we're better drivers than those young uns any day!.....

Our clan is heading for pipe and slippers in bf3, I am the only one under 40 (only just). We started on line gaming with half life and 56k modems. I still remember tweaking modems to get counter strike pings under 100ms.

We have to play as a tight squad or get wiped out by young pups :D

It depends on how you play. I go for the fast moving Rambo infantry approach so need the higher fps. If you are a sniper or tank player it does not matter as much.

I was waiting for 7xxx but came to the same conclusion. Going by past experience it could be a while before the less expensive cards come out in any numbers and then waiting for reviews / benchmarks ;)

Now purchased MSI frozen iii 6950 2GB.
 
Moogleys change your FOV to 90, 70 is console FOV dude. Then you'll see your FPS drop a lot but at least it wont look like your looking down a toilet role
 
if you got fraps just do a few 1 min benchmark runs .

no one can judge there fps by glancing at it while in game :p

msaa is the killer in bf3 its poorly implemented.
 
im getting worse than 30fps how about 19fps!! just waiting to see what price the 7970s are gonna be before i upgrade if its £500 which is way over priced then i ll wait a bit longer, and maybe see what the compition has to offer!

You'll be waiting till Q3 or Q4 of 2012 then ;)

30FPS on something like BF3 is fine. The only games having a really high fps make a noticable difference are the quake engine games and their derivatives (CS series) and the IW engine as it plays a big part in the netcode they use.

A lot of modern games now will appear very smooth at only 30fps thanks to the (take with a pinch of salt) "jumps in technology" that has arisen due to the consoles - they need games to be smooth at that framerate as that's all they can muster!

I have a few things dropped down to Medium settings so I get a more consistent framerate, and that is the key. Good for you if you get 120 fps with your nice 120hz monitor, but if that suddenly jumps down you're going to notice and it will affect your "performance". Stamina > size every day boys and girls ;)
