Q6600 : 2.4Ghz
4gb 800mhz 4-4-3-12
9800gtx ocx
Vista 64bit
xfi xtreme gaming
22inch.
750w ocz psu

Vista test - Everything rated 5.9 except the ram which is rated at 5.5(Strange) and HD at 5.7

As stated i have problems with the system right now.

AA - My AA is not working in any game.I have tried many games with different engines like css:s and Grid.Formatting my pc did not solve this problem.I am using the latest whql driver and had tried numerous other drivers even from modded sites.(177.79 drivers)

Performance - I can not play grid at max graphics or else i will lag ( have to lower from 16x qxmssa to 8xmssa).Age of empires lags on full graphics.Age of conan is not playable at full graphics,i get about 20 to 30 fps max.A friend has nearly the same system as i do and he plays at about 50 - 80 fps with the same settings.Formatting the pc did not solve this problem.

What is wrong with my pc? AA doesnt work and worst of all performance is very bad for the kind of pc i have.Yes i play on a 22inch (1680res) but still it should blow up most of the games i stated.

Overheating is not a problem here.
Shall i try install the Drivers that came with the cd?
Install xp 64bit?

Please Help

could you post a screenshot of cpuz and gpuz
especially gpu temps
are you running the 9800gtx ocx at stock overclock or have you pushed it further
im using same drivers as you btw

I am using factory overclocked settings.

Did a vista test right now and the ram ratings seem strange.

Screenshoots Idle and In-Game

Temperature barley reaches 62 in all of the games i play.Fan running at 100%.

Its very hot here so i try not to overclock any hardware. My cpu temp is 60 at idle and can reached 66 while gaming.Yes this is strange.Temperatures should be this way.I have a very good cooler for my quad.

I do not think that 66deg while throttle my cpu and decrease ingame performance at this stage.

right - ive put my computer in the same situation as yours - matched the temp by dropping my fan speed right down
downclocked my processor to the stock speed and turned the fan on that right down so that temps for gpu and cpu are the same as yours
i had to be less aggressive with my ram timings
perhaps that would help the ram issue you have - try 5-5-5-15 or similar

ran the following
crysis [high /4Xaa
call of duty [max / 4Xaa
stalker [max / 4Xaa

all for ten minutes in the most graphically intensive situations i had saved
seems ok
then a lot of artifacts kick in and it is very jerky
but i can still have anti aliasing on

i would suggest that this is a heat problem
i know you have said that the card doesnt hit high temps
but when my card hit 60 it started going funny
i turned my fan back up to the speed that matched my own overclocked settings and the issues went away

if your q6600 is 60'c at idle then there is something drastically wrong
my bedroom is pretty warm and mine idles at around 30'c whilst overclocked on lowest fan speed
i dont think i even hit 60 on 100% load

if its hot where you are
you need to be looking at around 35'c idle for cpu - especially at stock settings

im not sure if graphics is the problem
in your bios is the pcie bandwidth set to 100 or 101
if you forget to unlink it from the fsb in some bioses it can scale [just a suggestion]

I'll go check my bios for the pcie readings.

Did a memory test for the whole night. No erros or crashes.Computer seems stable.

Now im going to put my ram back to its original timings instead the defaults timings.

Tuniq Tower Blue LED 120mm - This is my cpu coolers. Its very big and is suppose to be of great quality.Costs about 65 euros.

This problem is very strange.Shall i try put a big fan on my computer and re-open my the side of my case again?

Dust is not a problem here.I cleaned my computer 2 days ago with air.

Bdw i get no artifacts or anything.Yes sometimes i do crash and have a small soundlooop. This performance drop i get is from the start and not after some minutes or hours of playing.

Upped up my ram timings to the original timings.Computer seems fine. The pci i am using is 1.0a.Is this strange?Shouldnt it be version 2.0?

My cpu seems to be underclocking itself when not in game or any cpu intensive task. How can i remove this? It's annoying to have your cpu underclocked and overclocked each and everytime.I do not trust this.

tuniq should be cooling better than that - is it seated right

whatever you do
leave the ide of the case on
there will be worse airflow with it off

pci express is 2 on that card but it depends which version your mobo supports
v2 cards will still run in a v1 lane - the difference is negligable tbh

the cpu speed it fluctuating because of speedstep or eist
the option is in your bios
disable it to keep it constant

it is intels way of saving energy when your cpu is not at full load
i have mine off
but to save on heat it might be wise to leave it like that

i really think this is a heatsink seating problem

what motherboard is this you are running?

could you take pictures of your advanced options in the bios and post them up here?

How can i calculate my room ambient temperature?I know its a stupid question but i really have no idea at all.

I live in malta. No air condition just a fan.

Can i get a software to calculate the inside ambient temperature of the case?

I have a dfi lan party x38 mb so it supports pci-e 2 for sure.

Il go to bios and try to find speedstep and switch it off.

I'll post pictures right away. Thanks very much for the help. Will not be long.

see if speedstep fixes it
remember to set your multiplier and fsb though

the mobo should be fine

i still think a full overhaul on your heatsink should see the temps drop a lot

what stepping is your q6600? [look in cpuz for this info]
i know the b3 ones run quite a bit hotter than the G0 ones

but not to the extent that yours is running at

ambient air temp is the room temp btw

good
well it should be running cooler than that - even with high ambient temps

speedstep is also called EIST sometimes - im not sure what it is on dfi boards

perhaps the mobo manual would point you at it

i really do think that the first proper solution to this is to start with getting some high quality TIM cleaner and cleaning the cpu and heatsink then reapply some fresh TIM and reseat the hetsink
