ABIT AN-M2HD HELP

Bear,

Thanks for your info. and pleased that your unit is now OK.

I also had set my HD spool time but to 4 sec. and all was well yesterday.
Thats the good news.

In the evening, cold reboot OK, I was looking at the software LCD settings for the Antec Fusion case, then an immediate power down.
Now all I get at power on is an immediate power down.

To check components I stripped the MB out of the case and connected a PC Speaker, (the Fusion does not have one) and with only the CPU, CPU Fan, Memory and Speaker connected, on power on I get one short bleep, but the power remains on.
This is a Ram refresh interrupt timer/controller failure which means the MB is US.

So I await an RMA number to return for a replacement.

Bad timing on my part re week end and bank hols, so looks like its the new year to pick up the project again.

Have a good Xmas.:)

New prob. With all the software installed, tested and everything running fine, as soon as I install the 2nd stick of RAM it won't boot. I know on the DFI nF4 Expert you can't install the RAM in DIMM 1 & DIMM 2 like the mobo book says to do. Does anyone know of any similar issues with this board?

Bear,
Have you solved your Ram issues?
It does state in the manual to install Dual channel in Dimm1 & Dimm2 or Dimm3 & Dimm4, they are colour coded, Dimm1 same colour as Dimm2, ditto for 3 & 4. So it appears that the manual is correct.

My Asus P5N-E SLI Dimm sockets are colour coded. If using 2 dimms they would go in either the blue or black slots (A1 & B1 or A2 & B2) for Dual Channel. This appears to be the same as the DFI nF4 expert.

I've searched the Abit Web Site FAQ, there are some known issues with Ram settings and Ram compatibility.

e.g. Booting issues when Ram volts less than 1.9v (for DDR2 800)

see the link:-

My MB has been returned for replacement, but the supplier is out of stock of the AN M2HD, so It will be a few days before I get a replacement.

Hoping you solved your issues.

There is a key difference between the abit board and the nF4 Expert. Dual channel on the abit board uses DIMM 1&2 or DIMM 3&4 for a 2GB setup. On the DFI board DIMM 1&2 = ch 1 & DIMM 3&4 = ch 2. For a dual channel setup you have to use 1&3 or 2&4. The mobo book actually contradicts itself here with a "chart" that shows both single and double sided RAM in 1&3 for dual channel but the text recommends 2&4.

Forgot to answer your question about the RAM. Yes! The problem was that the defaults were lowering the RAM voltage. Should've caught it sooner. Oh well! Once I reset it, for about the tenth time, to the recommended 2.25v I had no further booting issues.
