Here Goes!.

Even though I'm posting this on my perfectly good ol NF7-s, less can be said for my AV8 board.

I'm really piffed at the mo for 2 reasons, I bought my Abit AV8 so that I could drop a Athlon 64 3800+ Duel core into it only to discover that the BIOS was so old that it didnt even recognise my chip, how long have Duel Cores been out!!!!! .obviously not as long as this board has been sitting on the shelf maybe!.

Once in windows it was apparent that all was NOT good, The disk access was trippled even after I installed the KIA SATA Drivers. I cant believe it, All this money spent on new mobo and processor and it was defragging 5 times slower then my old NF7-s.

Anyone know why please, could they tell me, Is this a bios issue.??

Anyway I really needed to get this thing working properly so I read carefully about Updating the BIOS. Apparantly version 26 is the newest and version 21 was able to detect X2 chips, but I went for 26 the latest version. which seemed sensible.

I used the Flasmenu but not through Internet, I loaded the file. It worked ok. But after an hour. some things seemed unstable So I thought it best to go back to ver 24, Half way through Flashing Beeezzzeewwww   It shutdown , Noooooooooooooo please please no not that.

YEP, one dead mobo, thanks to Abit, It wont even boot into Bios. only a few lights on the baord show up and code(99). on the LCD

Has this Wrecked my processor ??..

Please tell me it cant do that!.

Sorry cant help you but I had the same problem happen to me when I upgraded my ram to 2gb, my Asus A8V wasnt stable even when running the ram at 2.8vdimm so I decided to upgrade the bios & made the matter worse because the latest one didnt have anything in the bios menu to increase memory voltage, upon reflashing back to my old memory...... you guessed it, it froze bringing up a memory error argh! The damn crash free bios CD didnt work at all either.

I feel for you mate, in regards to the AV8 you tried getting in touch with Abit themselves the tech's can usually give you help especially as you have the error code, have you checked on the net what code 99 actually means & what can be done if anything??

Hi, Thanks for replying, It just says code 99= Boot (9f int) this means absolutly nothing to me.

If it said code 99 = "Your bios is screwed, have a nice day".. then I could grasp it. maybe abit are turning into a mini microsoft, where you have to purchase a special decoding manual.

all the abit post-codes are available on their forums.

I always go by the recommended method, floppy with the approprate command extensions.
