I have an Abit Aw8 (Intel i955 ICH7) chipset i995x MB, and would like to go it dual/quad core, is it possible with this MB

Only supported dual core cpus are Pentium 4 up to Pentium D EE 965. No chance for Core 2 dual or quad sorry.

wow that's a classic

i'm afraid that you'll find it difficult to find a compatible CPU as it needs to be an 800MHz FSB Pentium 4, a generation or two earlier than the one listed

This is assuming your RAM will be ok, what spec RAM do you have?

have a look for a pentium d (for example, model numbers 805 or 935) second hand. they are dual core, they overclock if your board allows and they are really cheap if you are patient.

Your memory will work fine with the second spec'ed system i put. If you are willing to spend that much on a cpu already i'd definetly just get that board and cpu as its light years ahead of any PIV system.
