Hey i just wanted to check that the Abit IP35 will be ok for wireing it into a Netgear WPN824 108Mbps RangeMax Wireless Cable/DSL Router.

I plan on being able to get the most out of my 4mb virgin cable as possible and being able to wire the router to my pc via the motherboard lan input. or will i need to buy a network card?

Further more id like to be able to play lan games such as BF2 and CSS with about 3/4 other laptops. Do you think this would be a problem as ill need a fast network where it will be able to connect to my pc through wired and the others at good rates.

I shall be buying ready for the 13th of september soon.

The onboard LAN on your motherboard will be fine and your home network will have no problems supporting LAN games.

No-one can tell you that, as its dependant on so many variables that are completely different per system and enviroment.

Well the pc spec will be whats in my signature and all pcs wired or wireless will be most likely next to the router when gaming.

But if my sister was upstairs above me and was on msn and i wanted to play games online do you think id take that bigger hit with virgin 4mb cable.

:EDIT:

On a comparison chart it says that this wireless wouldn't be able to do steady streeming ?

Instant messaging uses relatively little bandwidth (same with gaming). You wouldn't notice anything if that's all she's doing.

What ever "Steady Streaming" is. Looks like some sort of proprietary technology from Netgear to improve the stability of your wireless connection. No idea if it's any good.

The DG834N Wireless N Modem Router utilises a technology called 'Steady-Stream', which ensures your wireless network offers a steady constant connection, with sufficient bandwidth available to stream, download, browse the Internet and transfer files all at the same time. With RangeMax™ NEXT Wireless N technology you should not experience any more frustrating interruptions or freezes, just a constant connection that enables you and your household to use the Internet and wireless network as you choose, whenever you choose.

well thats a lie, my friend has terrible trouble with his netgear wireless sometimes lol :P But igues that could be AOL as well... which wouldn't suprise me actually :P

I dunno if i can really justify having to spend that much money to get 270mbps with the steady streem unless i really need it to have a good connection for lan gaming and to prevent my sister disturbing gaming :P

:EDIT:

would 10/100 be fine for wiring to my pc for gaming as well? as this router doesn't do 10/100/1000 i dont beleive.

Gigabit is only useful if your doing a lot of big file transfers, are using the PC as a media server for HD stuff, or your PC is a server on a domain.

Ok then. Well this is what i plan to be able to do with my wee lil network:

1 be able to play online games with my sister connected on msn and facebook on her laptop.

2. Be able to play lan games with 2/3 other laptops playing.

3. Possibly going to use this current pc to host a css server for playing my friends on lan in november when i upgrade. I havn't a clue how hosting a lan server on css really works though or if id even need to use a separate pc for it.

Im guesing the 108mb/s range max will be fine for this?

By the way thanks for all you guys help so far. I really am clueless on networks :P

The only potential problem i can see there isnt bandwidth related. Its latency. But i dont know how the rangemax stuff handles it, or if its even an issue. So prehaps someone else could comment there?
:).

mmm well i need good pings for gaming. Would getting a better router change that or do you think i might get bad pings just coz its only a 4mb connection?

Your pings are related to your connection speed/bandwidth.
It should be ok, but im not sure, having never tested or heard of, of what sort of lantency issues you may or may not have with wireless.
Someone else will have to answer that for you.:).
