Hi all

I have the Abit NF7S V2 motherboard coupled with a Barton 2500 CPU. Looking to upgrade the CPU, but what is the best I can go for on this board.

All help appreciated.

Thanks

The highest CPU the board can support is the AMD 3200+ barton but they are very hard to find now days.

So this CPU would be OK?

AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.1Ghz Barton 512K 333 FSB Socket A

I have this exact CPU and mobo combo, and it happily clocks to 3200 speeds and above. So it's worth trying to overclock it before upgrading.

Yeh, I wouldn't bother buying a new CPU for the extra few hundred MHz that you could probably get from overclocking what you've got at the moment.

A bit wary of overclocking, as I have been having heat problems. Re-seated CPU this week, so hopefully should be OK. Just awaiting a new case fan from an auction site.

So where do i start to OC this CPU?

the XP2500+ & XP3200+ are essentially the same chip bar the default fsb (166 on XP2500, 400 on 3200) & share the same multi.
So all that you need to do assuming that you have RAM that can run DDR400 as well is to increase the CPU fsb to 200. You may need a touch more Vcore to get it to run that stably but the vast majority of XP2500+s will do it.
