Ive always been a bit of an nforce fanboy but im switching to 775 and C2D, im considering the Abit AW9D-MAX or Asus P5W DH.
Ive got no intention of clocking but i know i may get the bug so im wondering which would suit me as a novice clocker? Im sticking a e6300 in it and some 6400 ram.

with that speed of ram i really recommend a 965 chipset instead, will clock a lot higher. ( asus p5b deluxe or gigabyte 965p-ds4/ds4 are great boards )

Personally out of the 2 you mentioned i'd go with asus because i like their bios, but i think the abit clocks higher in this case from them 2...

if the oc bug does bite a 965 will take you further with your E6300's 7x multi than a 975 will.
I've got a DS4 for my E6400 but I'm getting either a DFI Infinity 975 or abit AW9D for my E6600.

Slightly irrelevant i know but:-

Recently put together two AM2 based systems using (its a long story) three seperate mobo's:-
Gigabyte (Gigabyte GA_M57SLi-S4 nForce 570 ) - Unlocked PCI-No Bios Update? :(
Abit (Abit KN9 Ultra nForce 570 Ultra) - Good Clocker - as above but now with Bios update :)
Asus (M2n-E) - Really unstable - rubbish board.

All the boards were sold as "Overclockers Boards" which leads me to totally distrust Asus/Gigabyte in future.

The Abit wins in every conceivable way to be honest, but apparently the DS4 Gigabyte is really good so i appreciate my comments are a tad useless really.

Just my 2p's worth

everyboard has its hit and misses. and it seems more often than not it seems to be the bios at fault. Recent example would be the threads i been reading about the DFI infinity. Apparently the new bios makes a world of difference.

Abit had some financial trouble in taiwan recently and nearly went under. Although i guess they are less likely to fall into the same trap twice, it still makes me think...

the mobo side was taken over at the start of 2006 by USI which is a pretty serious company (their turnover for Nov. 2006 alone was ~£325 million) & even that's only a division of it's parent group ASE.
If you've been watching you can see/feel the difference that that backing has made.
