Okay,
So i bought an abit ab9 quadgt board for my new build. installed all hardware i wanted and set up windows on one of the hard drives as a temporary thing, just to see what my new beastie was like.
after i had played i wanted to put my 2 wd caviar 7200 16 mb cache drives in a raid0.
could i do it??
could i buggery!
after a while asking on here wondering whether i doing something wrong (as i was pretty sure how to set up a raid in the first place) it came to no avail. so i had to trawl google risking virus' and in-accurate info.
oddly enough i ended up on the abit USA forums where people were having similar problems. and luckily there were fixes!
the fix was to flash your bios with a beta version!
the problem with the abit forum is that bios updates are not easy to find links for but when you do it works a treat!
So to get your raid working on quadgt to the following!
1. trawl the abit forums for a thread containing a link to bios 11a b06
the b06 refers to the version e.g. this is B[ios][version]06
(there is talk of a B08 but this is distributed by abit to a select few only)
2. flash your bios using this beta version. I did it via windows using a flash tool.
3. you computer will restart (i absolutely **** myself as my pc wouldnt show a bios screen after restart but if you leave it a few mins on the black screen then turn your pc off and on again (IT crowd) it works fine you can use bios as normal!)
4. Enter your bios and go to the integrated peripherals section.
5. in the onchip ide device settings there is an option to disable the resource and change the type of resouce it is, default is IDE but you should change it to RAID
6. save default settings and you machine will rbt
7. Keep bashing ctrl + i while it is booting. i wasnt quick enough to press it on the screen it tells you to so i just take the chav approach
8. the raid menu should appear but dont think your pc isnt responding when you try and select options inside it as it is terribly slow. pressing down on the keyb takes a while and it takes a moment for the menu's to warm up.
If you have any questions then by all means just post here
I hope this helps anyone who searches!
Russ.
