Hi all,

Ive got this problem when i boot, i get a error message saying "cmos checksum error - defaults loaded" so i read the manual and it says this could be a worn out battery so i put a new one in and no luck.

The problem is that i can get around this by clearing the bios with the button on the back but this now means i can not change anything in bios or set the boot order. Every time i reset or turn off the computer i get a blank screen but every things lit up on the mobo.

Also i checked bios, and it is latest.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as ive asked elsewhere and found no solutions and even contacted abit to no reply. I also contacted overclockers who said they think it is faulty and i can return it to them for a new one. But its a lot of hazzel to take out and return mobo.

Thanks

this message is normal on a new install or after clearing the BIOS.
Try entering the BIOS, setting & saving optimised defaults before then changing & saving anything else that may be required by your system (e.g. RAM voltage)

hi

Thanks for the comments.

Maybe I was not clear. I built the pc two months ago and it has been working fine. Then suddenly, one day I shut down and then when I tried to boot up again, the monitor was receiving no video signal (mobo lights on but ocmputer not booting). I then pressed the CMOS button on the back of pc I/O panel. Then PC booted up and I got the message “CMOS checksum error”, I then press F1 and windows loads. Pc works fine. But when I either restart or shut down and try to boot up again , I get the same problem, no signal to monitor. So again I have to press CMOS button and the pattern repeats.

I put a new battery in the mobo last night, but still have the problem. I think I have done what you suggested and gone into bios and saved and exited. Will try again tonight.

Otherwise do you think I have to return it? And I must say that ABIT are useless they have completely ignore two messages I sent them via there technical support form.

where are you sending it?
try an email to abit Nl, the European support centre.
you probably already know that abit are stopping mobo production by the end of 2008 so no doubt they have already started cutting/consolidating tech. support.

Don't press F1 to continue. Press DEL and enter the BIOS. Load Optimized Defaults in the first instance then save and exit.
Then look at setting any 'performance' options your setup may need to boot successfully. Memory voltage/timings e.t.c.

Wiseguy....Excellent...Thank you....

just did what you recommended and so far...touch wood...it works!

previouly i did something similar but instead of optimal defaults i choose safe defaults...but that did not work...not sure of the difference.

and to Buff to answer your question i contact abit through this:
http://www.abit.com.tw/page/uk/contact/technical.php

and i did not know they were not making abit mobo anymore...this will teach me for not buying an ASUS!

thanks again.

mmm, isn't that what I told you to do earlier?:p

well, even with abit gone Asus would be probably my last choice ...

its happen again 8 months later

hi, the same problem has happened again, but this time the old solution is not working!

i press clear cmos, wait a minute, boot pc, get option to press f1 (clear cmos checksum error) or hit delete, hit delete and enter setup, here load optimised bios defaults, save and exit....but when pc reboots no signal to monitor and again must clear cmos by pressing button on back of mobo and pattern repeats?????

help please...this is so infuriating.

thank you.
