just found out today that we have gone FIBER LIVE :)
did a broadband check on bt infinity and talktalk and there both reporting me as being FIBER active :D

been quite happy to be honest with my current broadband 24mb down 1meg up :D
granted i don't do a lot of uploading but i do quite a lot of downloading

from streaming movies and netflix and shows and games to my consoles ect ect
and i have had no issues with buffering or the like
though i do expect to have great fiber when the engineer comes out 14th of October is the date he will arrive, talk talks super router will arrive 4 days before
i don't live to far from the exchange so i am hoping on great fiber, bt estimates 72+-80+mb
though this brings me to my other question

does anyone have any recommendations on what router to buy as i don't really like the generic types of routers that IPs provide you with....

i like routers like netgear with there broadcom chipsets :D
or what ever ones you recommend would be appreciated cheers.

i just hope that BT and TT are not lieing to me cause according to btopenreach checker we are scheduled to get fiber in the calendar year 2015.. so this is a bit early right.

Avoid TalkTalk like the plague. Terrible company.

We're with Plusnet on the 40Mb fibre package. Can't fault them at all.

Is there any particular feature you need from the router? The one Plusnet provide has 802.11n wireless and hasn't fallen over once. It's a TG582N. I certainly haven't found a reason to upgrade it.

edit: just noticed you've actually ordered with TalkTalk? Cancel if you can. If you're an experienced enough user to think about swapping out the router because you don't like the generic ISP ones, you're shooting yourself in the foot by going with one of the worst-peforming ISPs out there.

Talk talk only have terrible customer service. The actual fibre product is flaw less. So when I needed their help I emailed the CEOs office and I get a call from their U.K. Service team. Sorted.

Had 76mb for nearly two years, not dropped out once in that time.

I've had TalkTalk fibre for about a year now and can't fault it. It's a superb product (for me).

If you are also taking the TalkTalk TV service, and want to use their IPTV add-ons, you need to be aware that your router must be multicast enabled. I use the Netgear WNDR4500.

talktalk are fine as long as you don't have a problem....... if you do then prepare for many complaints (i have them but am switching because the customer service is THAT bad)

Another one for Plusnet here. No problems whatsoever with their service, and they've got a half-price for 6 months offer that they've had on in some form for ages now (since June). If you can get £100 cashback from either TCB or Quidco on top, it becomes an absolute bargain.

EDIT: Just noticed that you're on a 24Mbps DSL connection at the moment. If that's the case, I'd definitely consider holding off until that cashback offer comes back round.

freaking grammar police, nothing better to do, if your going to complain about grammar
in this thread i would rather you stay out of the thread k :)

and yeah guys that netgear router sounds good.
did a speed check on plus net and they show up to 72mb down and 20mb up

once my contract is out i might swap over to them if there going to be much better than talk talk i cant do that just yet as my contract has carried over to my fiber install so need to wait until the contract is up first.

if talk talk are good with there fiber i will probably keep it. though i have had no issues at all with my normal bb with talk talk so i don't expect any issues i hope.

You have a 14 day cooling off period, so give TalkTalk a call.

Plusnet have a quality of service policy (QoS) which means they will throttle P2P/Torrent/Usenet. BT and Sky don't as far as I know (I'm with BT).

Plusnet is excellent value if you just want to browse though.
