It seems sky has ADSL2+ on my exchange now, so i'm thinking i'm going to move from my 8mb ADSL24 connection to an estimated 19mb one with sky. How are sky for torrents? Do they throttle etc?

Been with Sky about 2yrs with unlimited broadband, can't fault it, never had any problem's with their Custom Service alway's been spot on. If you game phone them and tell them you do, my two son's and me game never had a problem...

As said above, as long as you are using there unlimited LLU service there will be no issues at all. No throttling that iv seen, and no problems with torrents either.

Made the same move myself after Sky got their LLU hardware in over the summer.

Loving it :)

Love the email I got from sky this morning.
"...... maximum download speed of up to 20Mb and we estimate that the maximum download speed your line could support is 21.5Mb"
So on a 20Mb line i'll get 21.5? lol

The technology is actuall up to 24Mb but they sell it as up to 20Mb, presumably becasue so few would actually receive over 20Mb. Concider yourself lucky :)

Nice one realscot, l get 7.6-dstrm/6o4-upstrm set for gaming, Sky worked out far cheaper than BT. We paid £66 + calls on top with BT, Sky Package HD + unlimited it varies depending on call's made average £70.

Sky LLU goes live tomorrow, can't wait!! Im in the process of assaulting my remaining download allowance hehe. Sky say they innitially give u 4Mb then gradually turn it up, so it could be friday at the earliest before I see an increase over what I already have. Will update this thread with benchmarks etc.

Make sure you do not fiddle with the router during the first 10 days. a lot of people do this and it confuses the line management tool in reporting a lower top speed on your line.

Mine started at 4meg and gradually raised after the first few days to 17meg and has been stable at that ever since.

Well it went live about an hour ago. Couldn't get it to work with my DGN2000, so i've plugged in the Sky provided Dlink router for now, will leave it for the first 10 days like that before I try fiddling.
Yes I had the Full 8mb sync speed before (dont ask me the last 3 digits 8***)

Here's my current details the sky routers posting up.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4095 kbps 605 kbps
Line Attenuation 16.0db 11.4db
Noise Margin 14.5db 17.6db

My friend lives across the street from the exchange and gets 6db downstream attenuation.

Also after the 10 day training period the automated software will give u the best 100% error free speed, but not necessarily the best speed.

If you want after the training period u can call sky and ask them to tweak the speeds, they will only tweak it so much until to many errors show up, but it can make a difference especially in upload speeds.

Do you mean noise Margin? 6db auttention would mean he lives in the exchange almost.

No I really do mean Attenuation, I'll get a screenshot next time i'm at his house to show you. If you opened his front door you'd be able to throw a snowball and hit the exchange.

wow thats one of the lowest i have seen.

My auttention is 15.9 and im a few hundreds metres away from the exchange so with you stats which are very similar to mine you should get about 17meg

this is what i get currently although this is with a Netgear router not sky's supplied one. I find the sky router gives me worse stats.

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 17270 kbps 1150 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.1 db 9.0 db
Noise Margin 6.8 db 9.0 db

Stats from my Sky Router (official Netgear DG834GT, no change to firmware other than what Sky have updated)

Connection Speed 19826 kbps 1153 kbps
Line Attenuation 15.0 db 9.9 db
Noise Margin 7.1 db 9.0 db

Man from Sky told me my line length was around 700 metres.

lucky people!!

Connection Speed 7935 kbps 798 kbps
Line Attenuation 43.0 db 22.4 db
Noise Margin 6.5 db 16.0 db

Still no caps/limit/throttling so can't complain.

You can use your own router with Sky once you have let the 10 days go by. You will need to use a certain website [can't find the link offhand] to calculate your Sky password based on your Router's serial number or MAC.

Once you have that, you're good to go. I use a second DG834GT with the DGTeam firmware on my Sky broadband. Although in two days I will be on BT Infinity.

I have normally been one to laud Sky, as it was a good service. However, in the last 5 or 6 months my line quality has reduced and every time Sky say they have fixed it, it drops back after a few days. I know my line can do 5MB, and I spent over a year at 4-4.5MB, but haven't been able to get over 3MB for more than a day since the Summer.

In short, great service when it works. But Sky are slow to help when things do go wonky, and that appears to be happening a lot to me! :(

So, 35MB here I come! :p
