About To Start Riding...

So try gear on before buying, and barter with the guys at J&S -got it! :D

Really I shouldn't be getting the YZF-R125 becuase of its cost to repair in future. That's udnerstandable.

Would you guys say its worth going for a CBR125 then? as the Kawasaki trail bike is more expensive then a CBR125 and is more the style I'm after. -Or is it just as pricey to repair as the YZF?

Probabley about the same to repair, fairings aren't cheap for many bikes, I decided against the CBR and went for the YZF because I think the yamaha felt better to sit on for me, and looked and felt a better quality.

Maybe it's just me but I can't help but laugh at "sport" 125's. Which is why I bought a CBF125, damn sight cheaper and isn't trying to be something it's not. Great bike but yes I'm itching for something bigger already!

Get what your saying about power, living in hilly West Yorkshire and can be a pain sometimes, but am doing my DAS early September so wont be for much longer then I want a nice 600cc.
I went for a CBR125r5 as I got a great condition one 2nd hand from a dealer for £1495. Wanted something that if looked after wouldn't lose much if any value and had (to me) what felt like a more controlling riding position when doing low speed, stop start riding, previous was an old GN125 and we didn't get on.

I would second the risk/cost with having more plastic and would probably push towards something with a bit less like a CBF, most important thing with any bike of any size is that you are comfortable in the riding position, can get good footing on the ground from either side without tilting it and it runs well, its about enjoying the journey!

I have no trouble on any roads up to/inc 60mph, and only get 'angry overtakers' on steep hills which have above 30mph limits as I stay in 3rd unless I have to slow down then speed back up.
I went +1 on front sprocket last chain/sprocket change mainly to experiment as it cost only a couple of quid more, seem to get more in higher gears, a fraction less in lower but lower revs in all gears which is working 'ok' for me. Fuel wise I have done from Mirfield to Shevington on ~ half a tank which is ~50miles I think, so was way cheaper than train.
Just for ref I'm ~ 5' 8" and hover between 10.5 & 11 stone and often ride with 10kg+ in either a rucksack or a tail bag.

If the YZF-R125 was sold as a Supersport I'd agree but it's not. It's a sports bike, like an XT125X is a supermoto or an AJS Daytona is a cruiser. The CBF125 is a Sports Tourer yet it's no ZZR1400..

They are all what they are..

You don't have to fill up with oil every time you put fuel in on a 2 stroke, nearly all have an oil tank which lasts ages.

They can be very reliable if not mistreated, rebuilds are cheap if they have.

If your keeping a bike just for a year or two, just get a good cheap 4 stroke bike and sell it on. If you want performance, get a 2 stroke, feed it quality oil and keep on top of the maintenance.
