I had my MOT done recently and it passed but i was told to replace my brake pads on the car which i did the next day. Since then I always get a yellow ABS light and yellow Engine light up on my dashboard (Jaguar X Type 2003). I've taken it to two garages who have done some checks, said nothing was wrong with the car and they have no clue why the lights are still on :/

Any ideas?

Thanks :)

when my corsa had its 'engine' light come on it turned out to be either a lambda sensor or a faulty/loose cable (can't remember off the top of my head)

Wouldn't be surprised if something wasn't reset/set correctly during the brakes etc.

thanks for the replies :)

I mentioned this to a guy at work who said i might just need the computer resetting by "taking the wire off the plus, open all the doors, wait 20 mins and then put the wire back".

I of course nodded approvingly before tucking my tail between my legs and asking here.

His theory was that when a mechanic replaces the brake pads they should reset a sensor and not doing that would lead to the problem I have now.

its dangerous when people have a bit of knowledge and then invent stuff to fill in the gaps.

I presume the garages you have taken it to have plugged the car into the diagnostic machines? That should have told you what was causing the fault, as a light on means a code is logged in the memory.

Did you upset the ABS sensor wiring or the brake pad wear cable when doing the pads? Are they the correct pads.

I don't think it's the speed sensor tbh, as it would reset when the ignition was switched off and only reappear above around 5mph.

I left the car with my dad to take to the garage while i was at work so i'm not 100% sure exactly what they did execpt change my brake pads.

oh, it read like you'd changed them.

if a garage did it, then take it back - they weren't on before, so shouldn't be on now - get them to sort them, they broke it.

Does the ABS actually work?

not tried it to be on the safe side to be honest, but i'll give it a go tonight when i leave work :)
