cracks or no-cds are certainly not illegal, I use them on ligitimate copies for convienence. hell my eee pc doesnt even have a cd-drive.

They are well and truly, absolutely, unquestionably illegal. The ONLY time a "no-cd" patch is legal is if provided officially from the game's publisher.
