I work nights.

Opposite me, there are 15 flats that used to be there to house old people. The old people were moved on and now its has turned into a council estate were chav teens and jobless 20 somethings hang about all day doing nothing.

They have decided now to play there music consisting of only a bass drum as loud as possible causing an absolute nuisance to everyone who lives nearby.

I have 2 options,

I can either put my balacalava on and run over there with a baseball bat smashing there eighties style cheap "Dixons Stereo Speakers that lay on the lawn outside there flat to smithereens.

or

I can just sit here getting more and more infuriated because I haven't had enough sleep and will be returning to work later on tired as hell.

As we get further into the Summer this will get more and more regular and earlier and earlier. I find it hard enough to sleep as it is........

I ******* hate these chavv scum that contribute nothing to society and cause havok wherever they go, and there is nothing I can do!!!

I can honestly see myself snapping at some point I really can. Who is on my side in situations like this.. "no one". I'll have to move home!!!

Maybe you can get the police involved. It sounds like they're being inconsiderate and anti-social.

<naive mode>

Has anyone actually been down there to ask them (politely, of course) to turn the noise down? Perhaps they are unaware that they're causing a nuisance, and being thoroughly decent people they'd apologise profusely and turn the music off.

I suspect your best bet is to get the council and/or police involved. Excessive noise is a common problem these days, and local councils and police forces have sufficient powers to be able to put a stop to it. If nothing seems to be happening, keep pestering the council until they send somebody around.

Going vigilante will not endear your chums across the road to you. I suspect that noise pollution would become the least of your worries!

Although perhaps said in jest, it does have merit. The time of the post is a Sunday afternoon, hardly an unreasonable time in most peoples mind to be listening to some music and enjoying the sunshine. Perhaps they haven't even considered that some people work nights and may be trying to sleep.

Despite their appearances, you'd be amazed that actually talking to people reasonably sometimes works

As far as I can remember, because you are a night worker you have certain rights. My dad worked nights for 25 years and I recall the one morning a crew arrived just up the road to dig it up. Dad couldn't get any sleep so called the local council. Within 20 minuets the crew had packed up and then returned later in the afternoon allowing my Dad to get some sleep.

It's typical of the chavs not to give a **** about anyone else. I'm just glad we live in a nice area away from the chavy types. :)

Why should they stop playing their music on their land? By the sounds of it what these 'chavs' are doing is perfectly reasonable. Providing they are not annoying too many people during the day then there is nothing you can do.

I would advise that you don't waste police time. All you will do is antagonise them even more.

Have you considered getting a proper job during the day? Its proven that quality of life is considerable better than those who work night shifts.

You have quite some nerve, warning the OP about being antagonising, then spouting off this load of crap.

What's a "proper" job anyhow? He could be an investment banker for all you know, who has to work mad hours because the majority of his customers are overseas? That not "proper" enough for you?

Then we'd have no nurses

Thats a ridiculous comment.

If people have their speakers out loud on their lawn people have a right to complain as they shouldn't be forced to listen to it.

Im in Gravesend...

I will find out what authorities I can get in touch with, but I can guarantee that its effect will be negligible.

You'll be surprised. Greenwich have a 'noise team' and they come out at any time, unfortunately for me it wasn't playing when they got there - typical!

It was house music in a flat on the other side of the wall so pretty hard to point out to them.

But they followed it up with a letter and call etc etc.
