Absolutely Livid

Right, that would explain it then, although I rather give him the finger and then drive off rather than doing 20 for 5 mins.

As far as I am aware it is not a legal requirement that you indicate to overtake. If you are following an idiot or the person behind you is it’s probably a good idea..
It's not a legal requirement to indicate, ever. If it was then my car would have some fitted.

Yep, that would have pretty much been my recourse too :D

1 - Just because the National Speed limit is 60 doesn't mean you have to drive at 60, you drive at what you are comfortable with to be safe. The other drive obviously feels at these bendy roads its best to drive at 30-40.
I don't think he had a problem with that so it's not an issue. He simply wanted to overtake him and respected his right to drive at that speed.

It's all a matter of common sense, really. Use your indicators to indicate your intentions to other road-users and pedestrians. I'd indicate, just on the off-chance the driver in front of you noticed (which is more likely with flashing orange light) and made the appropriate concession and allowed you to pass safely.

If in doubt, make with the orange flickers.

Needless to say, I was so livid I slowed right down to 15-20mph leaving them stuck behind me for 5 minutes.
Fair play, I would have done the same thing. I am sick to death of idiots driving ridiculously slowly and then throwing a tantrum when you overtake them.

(oh FWIW, I do indicate when overtaking people)

I have a serious issue with drivers doing 40 in a 60 and then continuing to do 40 when the speed limit changes to 30. I mean wtf?

Why not just chalk it up to experience. He's an idiot, you're not, move on.

Driving at 20mph just to annoy the other driver seems rather childish to me.

You are right, but if you are able to let bygones be bygones when other drivers go out of their way to **** you off or endanger your life then you are a better man than I am :)

Indeed, but I am by no means retarded at driving. In a car like the Golf I start accelerating long before the overtake, I was doing about 60mph (to their approx 40) by the time I started to go past them.

Whilst I don't want to come across as patronising or anything, please don't use that technique for overtaking - it really is a poor method. You're committing yourself to an overtake, based on a hell of a lot of assumption. If during your overtake the situation changes and the overtaking lane becomes unsafe to enter, you're pretty much stuffed, and you'll potentially rear end the car you're trying to overtake.

If you can't hold behind the car you're trying to overtake, build speed and clear the car in front within the time gap you've got, you shouldn't really overtake.

Or, get a quicker accelerating car...

Agreed, this shows how slower cars are potentially more dangerous than fast ones, ironically enough.

I used to get angry but I decided a few years ago to just chill out. I now just let it wash over me.

Fair enough if you've done the homework mate, but I was always told by my instructor to only use the indicators when using junctions/roundabouts etc. Please note I've only been driving for just over a year, and only past my test 7 months ago.

I was always told by my instructor, use your indicators not just at a junction, but whenever you have to let other road users know of your intention to manouver, or in general to let anyone else know what your doing

I dont know why you where taught like that, and quite frankly not idicating when manouvering, especially if there were other road users around, could be grounds failing a driving test, or at least getting negative marks for it

My instructor told me many moons ago that I should never indicate when overtaking.
