hi,

just came in and tried to boot the computer. not a spark. no power, no fans, no lights, nothiing.

the power is going to the psu. the red light on the back is on, and other stuff that is running of the same socket (printer, ehdd) are powered up and working fine. i've looked at the main connectors to the mobo and they are as they were last niight when the computer was working perfect.

my psu is

Hiper HPU-4K580-MK Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU - Black UV (CA-005-HP)

and i bought it off ocuk about a year ago i think.

before i start ripping the rig to bits does anybody have any ideas as to the possible cause.

i do have an old psu and i will try that tonight, but i'll be surprised if my hiper is dead already.

do they ever blow a fuse??

Hipers appear to be blowing all the time I'm afraid.

Tried it as barebones (mobo CPU RAM)?

Perhaps try 1 stick of RAM only too, if you have more than 1 stick.

Try the old PSU too, if you have the time. Sure fire way to determine if it's PSU or not.

Try swapping the psu to rule it out. If it's ok with the other psu then that's yet another Hiper to add to the ever growing list. That will make two today and four this week, so far, that's failed/blown.

Hipers either go within a couple of weeks, or between 12-16 months which is what has happened to the majority of us.

jesus. wish i'd read more about them before i bought it.

but i hope it is the psu. i have a spare up the stair. if its the mobo i am in for a complete rebuild and reinstall of windows.

question though. is it possible for the psu to be goosed but the power light on the back still to be on.

thanks for replies by the way. flapping a bit here.

its not the psu. just swapped it for an antec 430 w unit, and still dead as a dodo.

sounds like the mobo to me. what do you think?

don'tunderstand how last night the mobo was fine and today it is nackered.

i have a surge protector plug on the computer, and its been off since last night anyway.

what is going on??

Haved you ruled out the power button. It's a long shot but check it out before getting a new board. Also check to make sure the cables are not loose on the board.

ok i'll take a look but i can't imagine the power connector has come loose.

i just did a semi rebuild getting the old psu in and reconnected the power button, but i should check the other end of the cable i spose.

the power light means it has AC power on the input, the secondary coil may be blow, or the DC rectififying circuitury could be gone, or the internal fuses could be blown, eitehr way the problem is after the AC circuitry

also just disconnected every single thing from the mobo, even the ram. all i lleft was the cpu.

and i checked the power connector on the case and it seems fine, so i need to order a new mobo quick.
