As title, i'm scanning in a load of old slides and i've noticed the card framed ones (60's) all seem to have a note on one side "view from this side", however the plastic framed ones don't.

So, absolutely stupid question, which side do I view/scan the plastic slides from? (I don't think i've ever used slides before, and a quick google doesn't suggest an answer).

Does it matter too much? If you have scanned them in the wrong way I assume they would just be a mirror image, if so just use a PP program to flip them the right way. :)

It's already going to take me about 6-12 hours to scan them, and label them etc*..(assuming about 2 minutes a slide for scanning, about 30 seconds to load them in the right way up, and then a couple of minutes to actually create the index for them)

I would prefer to get them the right way round from the start ;)

I just had a look at a few of them, and they all have a plain white side and a side with a grey insert (it clips inside the white part), and one of them had "this side towards screen", so i'm assuming that is the side to face towards the scanner element.:)
It's odd that only about 1 in 20 or so of the plastic ones say which side to face view from, whilst all the card ones did, I guess they assumed by that by that time everyone would know how to use slides :p (it seems Kodak must have swapped from card to plastic about 70 or 71, as the card ones seem to date from about 64-70).

*There are about 200.

only real whay to find out is to take a card slide and scan it eaither way see which gives you correct image and which gives a mirror. All slides are very different so it is hard to give you an exact answer unfortunately.

possibly just do one or 2 then once you got it right way continue on,, you dont need to do them all then check if there right ,, possibly a stupid obvious answer but thought id mention it...

I just did a load of these and found that the cardboard ones did have 'view from this side' written on them just like you say. The plastics were unmarked so i simply went through some to see if any contained writing - tee shirts, car number plates, signs, etc. Once i found a couple i found that both slides were the same way round so assumed all were the same.

Slightly laborious i know but probably worth the effort. ;)
