I imagine you get this all the time but I'm looking for a couple of good games I might be able to get into.

I've been out of the games scene for ages only playing FM2006, Zero hour (online) and PES5. Now i've got more time, i would ejnoy wasting an evening or two playing something that I get really into.

Games I enjoyed are along the likes of Medal of honour (thought the story was way better then RTCW), Test Drive 5 (6 was crap, don't laugh, if only they had GT4 on pc), May Payne, Ripper.

I'm looking for a)something really absorbing with a great story line. b) for a decent racing game something fun.

I haven't a clue whats been released in the past 3-4 years, so anyone could recommend something.

Cheers.

I liked mafia but all the driving around really annoyed me. I'll check out some reviews demos of the others..

Oh I really liked Privateer 2 (man thats old) is there anything like that around anymore?

Give Call of Duty a go.
I know its an oldish game now but it still looks great and the atmosphere is fantastic. Plus id imagine you can pick it up for a couple of quid now. Or of course there is CoD2 but it just didnt do it for me.

And for a racing game Toca race driver 3 or Trackmania Sunrise.

COD, COD2 and Far Cry plus Half Life 2 and HL2: Episode One are good fun!

Have you seen this offer at Gameplay? 2 games for £25? I ordered FEAR and Brothers in Arms today from this.

Definately Knights of the Old Republic, especially if you have any sort of interest for Star Wars universe, but it's not really needed, just a basic understanding of how things work in it, it's a fantastic game and has a superb story with an awseome twist in the middle.

Plus, if you enjoy it the first time round, it'll be totally different the second time round, as you just be good instead of bad :)

KOTOR and Neverwinter Knights are both fantastic. I've recently been replaying NWN and I can't believe how addictive it is, and it still looks great after 3 years. :)

Darkstar One :)

World of warcraft especially with the new expansion coming soon, the burning crusades!!

rotters
ps it has absorbed 7 months of my life so far!

Farcry, HL2, KOTOR, Baldurs Gate 2, Oblivion, Morrowind

I think morrowind has the most to offer in term of being absorbed that might change when OOO 1.3 comes out though. Less of that thought don't want to derail the thread.

you liked Max Payne, did you try Max Payne 2? I thought that was excellent, really built the story well. The charachters expression is still idiotic as ever, but the game charts his fall from sanity wonderfully

Give some of the Silent Hill games a go. They are usually console ports, so the controls and user interface may seem quirky at first, but once you start playing theres no turning back!

Or EVE online, absorbed 2 years of mine with one account and started another about a year ago :D MMORPG are life-eaters :D

It depends how old you want to go!

Half-life 1 and Deus Ex have great story lines. At the end of both you will sit there and feel empty with a "what now" thought floating around in your head. Freelancer has a good story line and is pretty immersive.

Ill go through my collection when i go home and post some more ideas.

Fahrenheit (if it hasn't already been mentioned). Unless you have the hand eye co-ordination of a 2 year old, the "Simon Says" control system can be ignored for the most part due to the rest of the game being so engrossing.

Bit short though I guess, however it does have multiple story paths and endings so there is some replay value there.

If you like MMORPGs try World of Warcraft, Everquest 2 (both high fantasy), EVE Online (space fantasy), Battlefield 2 (first person shooter), Counterstrike Source (FPS like the old CS but better).
Games in the near future - Age of Conan, Vanguard Saga of Heroes, Gods and Heroes, Warhammer Online.

The reason that I have mainly listed MMORPGS is that they tend to be the real life-hoovers. You can waste 4-5 hours an evening in these for months on end, sometimes years and still be left wanting more. Plus I dont know the spec of your PC but you are more likely to be able to play these games at reasonable settings than some of the newer FPS for example.

The only singleplayer game that has ever really got me never wanting to stop playing is Final Fantasy 7, and i have just finished again this week, took me around 40 hours.

If you want absorbing to the level of it taking over your life though, go for WoW, that game has killed many CS:S clans, and makes life really boring for me when online as everyone is just playing WoW all the ******* time
