Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2013, Yas Marina - Race 17/19

Wonder if Lewis can get a new set of tires after flat spotting the ones he had one when he had a mechanical failure? if so that would be good.

Think lotus are trying to throw away any chance of a podium for wcc :-\

Starting at the back didn't hurt them in India too much. That said, Grosjean had plenty of tyres left in India, and on a track which suited the Lotus's tyre conservation... something which might not be of much assistance tomorrow (switch to hard tyres, complete race).

and kimi might just not bother lol

he will start on the previous set he did his time on.

plus it didnt look that bad of a flat spot so they could prob remove it from the tyre if he needs the set

I thought if any tires was damaged during quali (mechanical failure) the team asked the FIA and they may let them have a new set.
It's been done before now so I don't see a problem with Merc changing them if they say they are wrecked.

Just trying to think of the race it happened?

Last I knew, if you damaged the set you were running on for your best lap, you were allowed to change them for another set with a similar mileage.

I can't see why they'd give you another set because your car broke. It's not like you don't have other sets you can't use.

Sounds like they will only run the options for 1 stint anyway.

People have had damaged tyres replaced, but I think its only been on a set they were forced into using, I.e. the set they set their fastest time on. There is no requirement for Hamilton to use the set he flat spotted, so no requirement for the FIA to replace them.

Don't think anyone had explicitly stated it unless I missed it. Seems Hamilton's wishbone broke as he put the power down, it did look like something went wrong as there was nothing wrong with how he took the corner, he was basically straightened up, put the power down then the car started to go.

Such a shame, at least he should, hopefully be able to start 4th. Though the lotus or RBR, even a Ferrari(maybe not this weekend) can do great from the back, the tyre issues, general lack of race pace and general backwards movement of Merc cars means I doubt he could do anything like what Kimi's car could from the back of the grid.

Kimi, I can see why he couldn't be arsed to race but ultimately he loves driving and this race will probably be more interesting than normal for him, more overtaking less "why can't this stupid POS catch Vettel ahead of me?" :p

Anything that breaks is allowed to be fixed without penalty with the same specification parts, with the exception of controlled components like engines and gearboxes.

Parc Ferme is about preventing setup changes or the use of qualifying specific parts, not about stopping people doing anything at all to the cars.

Vettel is 2/1 to be leading at the end of the first lap which I think is an outrageously good bet. How many times have we seen Webber trickle off the line when he's right up there? Way too many. That coupled with Vettel's lightning first lap pace suggests it's worth a few quid to me. I certainly wouldn't bet on Webber at 2/5.
