With pretty much everyone expecting Max to do something stupid and take them both out..

Can he really? He would have to have the most iron tight excuse ever surely?

I don't think it'll be a deliberate attempt - more just his usual "well it was fine in Brazil" type antics that could have worse consequences if it ends up with contact.

Whilst it's easy to think "he has nothing to lose" - he absolutely does - it's entirely possible to have incident that puts him out but allows Lewis to finish the race anywhere from 1st to 10th and win the title - it's not entirely risk free, so I don't think he'd go for a deliberate bump.

I wonder if Max was so desperate in Jeddah because they are expecting to not be that competitive?

Jeddah was a keystone moment for Verstappen and RBR. If Hamilton had come second, it would have made his chances at the WDC in the last race much, much harder. If Hamilton had gone out, he would have needed divine intervention to get the theoretical necessary points. Now it's winner takes all at the last race. No one is relying on a DNF or other drivers to get between the two fastest drivers to stretch the points gap.

Should be fun. Don't really care who wins it.

Wouldn't mind Max winning, but it would also be good to see an 8th title won. It's interesting that but for new engine rules 7 years ago Lewis could still be with only one championship.

Doesn't anyone actually like Marko? I've never heard a good word said about him. Do we have to go back to his time as Berger's manager to find something likeable about him? He ought to be thrown out the paddock the amount of times I've seen tv footage of him not wearing his mask correctly.

It is an interesting topic, how fine the balance could be between 7 titles or 'doing an Alonso' and moving around teams that end up not quite competitive enough to deliver a title.

I think someone with Lewis' speed though, if the 2014 Mercedes had been bang average, he'd have been looking around fairly soon. Maybe in 2015 he'd have gone to Red Bull instead of Kvyat to replace Vettel or to Ferrari instead of Vettel? The entire landscape would be totally different if the Merc was average.

I think it's safe to say he wouldn't have stayed with Merc for so many seasons though if they were clearly not competing - it would just be a bit of a lottery whether the team that did want him was competitive

Agreed, Norris deserves more for all his efforts. Thanks as well to @Shimmy for these yearly threads..
Its unlikely but theres nothing to say that McLaren wont pull a blinder next year with the new regs, I'd love to see them back up at the pointy end fighting for championships, Norris certainly deserves machinery capable winning, I'd love to see him succeed in F1.

News just in, the BBC have announced the BBC SPOTY final shortlist is to be delayed until after the F1 result this weekend! So Lewis still in with a chance. Sit ye down once more Emma Raducanu. (Although I still secretly want Mark Cavendish to win, though worryingly his name is not mentioned in the potential list as yet :( )

It's crazy to think that if Hamilton didn't balls up 2007 and let Rosberg get to his head, he'd be going for WDC number 10

I fully expect Max to try and take Hamilton out, but tbh Hamiltons ability to avoid incident at Jeddah was quite impressive, both the T1 bit (the one Max got a penalty for more than the 'park it on the apex' after the 1st restart) as well as the brake test, how he didn't just slam into the back of Max there...

So hopefully Max fails to take him out, ideally taking himself out in the process :p

Of course the RB could be the quicker car here (they were last year!) and Max strolls off into the distance to win.

Arguably you could add in 2012 where McLaren had a good car but having a strong teammate in Button potentially took a drivers title away from either of them.

When Hamilton attempted the pass round the outside, right when he was doing it I was shouting at the telly that he's nuts and Max will just take him out. But actually, it was probably the lesser of two evils because at least he can turn out of it himself and avoid contact. Whereas if he dived down the inside he'd have nowhere to go when Max turns into him. Sad to say but I'd imagine Mercedes had discussed that - and probably will again before this race :(
