Abu Dhabi young drivers test (15-17 November)

Looks like they're trying to deflect the air coming over the sidepods so that it causes the exhaust gases to move towards the beam wing.

Scarbs said there'd be a fair of development in that area.

Is this the potential 'hole' in the new regulations that Ross Brawn was warning about?

Ferrari testing devices to prevent Hamilton crashing into them?

^ lol :)

First day times added to opening post. Bit hard to read into them really, with the teams using various 2011/2012 spec cars and tyres.

Yeah, The only real comparisons can be between drivers in the same car, and even then they are likely on different programs with different parts.

I would love to know what data that Ferrari device is collecting, and how it is used.

Its for measuring air direction/speed/pressure or one of those if I recall correctly. They can see how the wheel affects the airflow as well as how the airflow changes as the wing flexes down.

Final day times added. Seems a bit of a weird test, as you have a mixture of teams using pay drivers, young/new drivers (from GP2 or similar), existing 'test' drivers with 2011 and 2012 spec cars. So therefore hard to read into it.

We'll see who from this week makes it to the grid in 2012... :)

Think this shows the underlying pace the RBR has had all year, but obviously Vettel has been the one to maximise its potential. Some of these devices they keep bringing to test the different air flows are getting more insane.

Who is Craig Scarborough? He has knowledge and access to details about the cars that go far beyond just being a generic motorsport journalist. His blog is brilliant.

Also, I don't have it to hand but F1 fanatic wrote an interesting article examining the achievements of the guys in the test, coming to the conclusion that testing an F1 car has more to do with money than skill. For some of the drivers that seems to be the case. But then, with modern F1 as much about having money as it is about having good drivers, is it really a surprise?
