Just had an email from my ISP saying they have had a report that I have been sharing copyright material. They want me to reply to their email within 7 days stating that my account will not be used for copyright infringement or any breaches of the law or the acceptable Use Policy.

I take it I have been warned!

Also, Failure to respond or further infringements will cause your account to be temporarily suspended, and could also result in your account being terminated.

Thats just a standard response from them. Obviously they have been informed by a third party that you have been Dl coyprighted material....

Nothing to really worry about..

You do no that ISPs acctually log packets and can see if they wanted to what your doing?

yeh but i think they couldnt care as long as your using them ..... until they get warned then theyll folow the "law obiding" procedures....

Of course. But i very much doubt if this is what has happened, unless the OP Dl's 24/7 and they have looked into your account.
All the cases i know of are where a third party organisation has reported the incident to the Isp .....

That is very vague - you need to ask them what copyright material in detail you have been sharing. Then simply just delete that one, you should be fine.

sharing copyright material

I think its this part, iirc they are targetting those that "Share" files. If you are using p2p make sure you arent sharing files unaware.

They did give me details of the file, and it must have been someone on my wireless network ;) I have been told by the "hacker" that the file in question hasn't been shared since it was downloaded.

It was utorrent with encryption. The 3rd party has obviously just looked at the peer list and spotted my IP.

How about you fully accept the warning.
Stop being thieving scum (or helping others to be thieving scum) and no longer have anything to do with copyright material (other than buying it when you want to)?

This way you've got absolutely nothing to worry about and you aren't being a thief/helping in theft.

If your post was to say "Hay, look at me, I thieve, aren't I clever"
*Giggle*
You failed....

There's always one that has to play cop. I accept I am in the wrong and I have replied to them. All I wanted to know was if any others had received the message and what the ramification are.

you not use pg2 ???
Use what?

I think the problem a lot of ISPs and authorities seem to have is that if they cant see what your downloading (encrypted), or if its torrent based, they'll just complain to be on the safe side.
