AC Experts please!

To be fair, it had stopped cooling prior to the re-gas. IMO the re-gas (albeit possibly overcharged) just highlighted this imminent failure.

I feel that this would have happened regardless, but I guess only an autopsy of the A/C system will prove this either way.

I guess a "lesser" system would have soldiered on but this one turned itself off when it recognised the low gas situation. When I cleared the code it came back on and was certainly "cold"!

Even with a complete strip down it could be impossible to pin blame

Surely the fact that he was shown conclusively that they entered the incorrect model, is proof enough to support any claim for damage? I suppose it comes down to whether or not a failure as a result of an overgas is a reasonably expected outcome or not.

I bet they offer him vouchers for a free re-gas at some point in the future :D.

I think you need to pop into a indpendant specialist who can do a proper pressure test and check the system integrity.

I had look at my neighbours KA and this had a leak on the discharge pipe coming out of the compressor, the pipe through Fords was around £ 90 ~, he did not worry in the end.

Op were you based?

Did they not put in a flourescent dye when they re-charged it?

I've had something similar, AC was working poorly, 1 person in the car it would be fine but any more and it couldn't cope so took it into a local AC specialist. They drew out whatever refridgerant there was, then vacuum tested, it passed so he filled it with around 750g.

Whilst it was being filled the AC was nice and cool but a day later nothing, so I took it back and he used a UV lamp (I think) to check the system and found that bottom left hand corner of the condensor showed signs of the dye. His explanation of why it passed the vaccum test was exactly as somebody here pointed out, under vacuum the hole seals itself but under pressure it opens up.

I haven't had time since this to get it sorted but it's always in the back of my mind that the the AC appeared to work before the recharge.

Got the word back from the Merc specialist I took it to for an opinion.

Minor leak from the condenser, wouldn't have made a difference who re-gassed it.

£320ish to replace it, not too bad.
