Bought this cooler,Expecting it to have Thermal Adhesive Tape/pads for mounting the VRM & Mem heat sinks...instead it came with this crappy glue you have to mix for 5 mins and takes 5 hours to dry?

Anyone else have a Accelero Twin Turbo II?...what did you think of that stuff?

I'm not going to use it,Just bought some Thermal Adhesive Tape here at Overclockers, don't want the VRM/Mem sinks to come off like people have been saying in the reviews for this cooler when using that paste/glue they give you.

Bit disappointing really,Why did they decide not to use Thermal Adhesive Tape?

I just bought the Arctic Accelero Xtreme Plus II VGA Cooler for my HD 7850 with the same crappy glue and yeah it takes 5 hours to to dry? I was thinking the same thing? would using that Thermal Adhesive Tape work better then that glue? If so I might have to get some.

Does anyone know which Thermal Adhesive Tape is best for XFX HD R7850 Core? what thickness it should be?

Will this one work?

I know it's sold out on here ,but I can get it elsewhere. or should I use a thermal compound instead? Like the topic creator said I don't want to wait 5 hours? I would be grateful for any help:)

Thanks

You don't want to use any tape on the core. You need thermal paste/grease :)

I've got one on my 6950, came with the cooler fitted when I bought it, I tried to get them off but I think I would end up pulling the RAM chips off the board, I think thermal tape would be a lot better!

Which tape should I get? I want to get the right one.

Anyone?

Someone here has to know?

Thermal glue would be best. I'm never gonna take off the heat sinks ever again anyways.

http://www.akasa.com.tw/update.php?...l&type=Accessories&type_sub=Thermal Interface

I used the Akasa thermal tape on both cards heat sinks as I had already used my cooler on my old 5870 previous to the 6950, 4 months later the ram heat sinks are still stuck on solid. Should the card need an rma, there would be much less of a chance of noticing that there was a different cooler on it because no glue would have been used.
It puzzles me why AC are now using glue instead of frag tape, especially as the frag tape used on the 5870 extreme ram sinks was vastly improved and they were stuck on rock solid, it's that good the original AC frag tape is still on one of the ram heat sinks being re-used a second time!
AC took a lot of flack for the frag tape used on previous AC coolers like the Twin Turbo which I have also used where the ram sinks would fall off quite easily.

The akasa tape works fine, 21 months later, the heatsinks have never fell off.

The reason mines never fell off is because I scrubbed the vrams with an eraser again and again and again, it's the residue left on the vram that makes the tape fall off.

If you don't want the tape to fall off, then rub some more!:)

It does say, Note:Provides semi-permanent bonding, not design for quick removal, not recommended for CPU or GPU usage.

Is this safe to use on my GPU?

Yes. I use it with my ramsinks and they never fall off. To remove them you need to pull firmly while applying a gentle twisting motion to the ramsink. Do not use it on the gpu core!! You need some thermal paste such as Arctic Coolings excellent MX-4 for the core.

The thermal paste is already on the Arctic Accelero Xtreme Plus II when I get it. So I wont need to put any on there. I still haven't decided whether I'm gonna use the thermal tape or use the glue that comes with it? From the reviews I've seen the tape doesn't work very well?

That Akasa tape works very well. I have never had a problem with it and have been using the stuff for years. If you never want the heatsinks to come off again then use the glue. I would always use the tape.

The thermal paste is only pre-applied on the main heatsink itself for the GPU, not the smaller heatsinks for the RAM and VRMs etc.

Also, the thermal paste on the main heatsink is not the same adhesive stuff that they want you to mix for the smaller heatsinks. As such you can remove the main heatsink and reapply other paste as many times as you like.

As for thermal tape, buy what tommybhoy suggested and also get a rubber. Almost 2 years of adhesion is about as good a review as you're going to get.

Great cooler, but I never bothered with the paste. Ramsinks on VRAM are pointless anyway (especially when this cooler blows cool air directly onto said VRAM). I have also never known VRAM to overclock better with sinks on, and I have tried them plenty of times.

The TT2 paste is carp, but VRAM heatsinks = waste of time and effort. Thermal pads and tape perform even worse that carp paste.

I was only going to use the tape for the heat sinks only, the main chip in the middle I would only have to clean. The cooler it self has thermal paste on the back end for the gpu core chip. I was worried about the ram chips. I might just use the glue. I'm never gonna remove the heat sinks ever again anyways.

One of the long vram heatsinks that was originally used when it first went on the 5870, when I (very)carefully removed it, I managed to keep the AC tape on it and put it straight onto the 6950>70.

As fate would have it, today, I removed one the Extremes from the 6950>70 to put the stock cooler back on as it's going in my sons PC he's getting for Xmas.

The re-used heatsink was still stuck on solid, along with the Akasa taped ones I may add.

When you fit it right, take your time-especially with the rubber on the vrams, then, as my twin 6950>70 AC Extremes@1Ghz go to prove:
