Acceptable backlight bleed

Cool and thanks for the quick response. I hope they offer the same thing here in NI. Currently thinking of buying a monitor as well

They agreed to ship the replacement at no additional charge for saturday delivery, which I guess is fair enough. Hopefully it will arrive this time.

The RMA wasn't picked up. Past the end of the (working day) pick up window. Evidently I put the kiss of death on it by complimenting them / OCUK.

Also, I just rang OCUK to tell them the RMA pick up hadn't arrived (having twice rung to ask them to contact DPD to confirm that it was coming, as their driver had already delivered something to me and I'd received neither SMS nor e-mail confirmation of today's pickup - they declined assuring me that it would come). The latter customer service representative had a terrible attitude and immediately launched into a tirade about how OCUK could do nothing and continued to rant about how it wasn't their fault and I was blaming them, and continued saying over and over again that I should contact DPD myself. When I eventually got a word in, I repeated once more that I had received no SMS or e-mail with job / consignment number for DPD from OCUK or DPD, so I couldn't. He then started the rant again, then changed tack to telling me to check my e-mail over and over again (which I had) and then contact DPD myself. Unbelievable. He was aggressive and rude throughtout. In the end I hung up.

This smacks of the appalling reputation OCUK returns / CS used to have under the company's previous ownership, and which I thought they'd definitively put behind them. It seems not. More sad is that everyone else I'd spoken to was courteous, and a lot of the staff clearly go out of their way to help people on the forums.

No particular desire to use them again for anything after this is resolved.

Edit: RMA pick up finally happened 30 minutes after the 9-5 window. Doesn't change the above, though

Set up the replacement today. Don't want to jinx it, as the first one worsened significantly by the second day, but this sample seems a great deal better.

This one still has bleed all along the bottom, and particularly bottom right, but it's less severe, and bleed around the rest of the frame is minimal or non-existent.

Provided it doesn't get worse like the previous one, it seems more than acceptable.

There is a but, however:

Both this sample and the RMA'd one are significantly more washed out and hazy at 120 or 144hz vs 60hz. Bleed also worsens at the higher refresh rate. The effect was minimal on the returned one, as any worsening was not particularly noticeable due to how catastrophically bad the bleed and uniformity were. However, it's very noticeable on this example. 60hz on standard setting with brightness turned down to 30 and everything else default looks really good, whereas 120-144hz I have to lower brightness to 20, then change sharpness, put gamma to max and set a custom colour profile (and still it doesn't look as good as at 60hz). This was not an issue on my XL2410T at all, the only real difference between the two modes was the motion was smoother.

Is this a problem which people are familiar with? Is this an inherent problem with the new panels in these BenQ monitors, is it something to do with it being PWM-free, or have both units been defective?

Would love some feedback from those in the know.

That is normal behaviour for the monitor. It seems to be the same for the ASUS VG248QE (same or very similar panel) which I investigated more thoroughly at 60Hz and found an obvious effect on gamma and the overall look of the image. The AOC g2460Pqu seemed to look more like the other models do at 60Hz when it was running at 144Hz, which was interesting. If it wasn't for the responsiveness being relatively poor on the AOC it would be a better alternative. :o

Thanks, then I'll definitely keep it provided that it doesn't worsen again like the other.

Shame they do this, as the image is really good for a TN at 60hz ...
