Acceptable CPU temps under load?

Was just wondering what kind of temps are acceptable for a CPU (in this case PII X4 965) under load. Mine is currently at ~50c at load with stock cooling, but that fan is annoyingly loud and want to be able to lower the RPM a bit, so was wondering what kind of temp I should be aiming for? don't want to cook my CPU because the fan was too loud for me ;)

those temps are fine, a aftermarket cooler will deffo help by a lot with sound and temp, those amd am2/am3 stock fans are annoying to say the least! Swopped to a aftermarket one and never looked back.

I know they are fine atm, I'm just wanting to drop fan speed and wondering what temp I should stop :) I'll be grabbing an aftermarket at some point, probably at same time I get new case, psu & gpu :)

Technically the max temp for these Phenom II CPUs is 63c - so 50 is fine.

Mine runs at around 49c under full load (940BE).

Ah right, guess I'll look into a quieter cooler. any recommendations?

Scythe Mugen 2, cant recommend it enough, its overkill for the cpu but the quietness and slow fan rotation really keep it cool under load, however really quiet.

droped my temps from 55-60 sometimes around 65 load to around 40 under load and down to 26ish idle however like i said, unsure on temp sensors.

max is about 95C? but anything higher than 75 would be dangerous.

under load i would say 50-60 to be safe on the long run
