Hi all,

The network admin at work decided a couple of weeks ago to upgrade everyone across the board to XP SP3, IE8 and AVG 8.5.

Since then, some of our users are unable to access our Data Access Page application which is published across the intranet.

For these users (myself included) IE8 will just freeze and crash out when trying to access these pages that require the database connection.

So it's fallen to me to try to resolve the issue that wasn't present prior to IE8.

I have tried adding the site into the Trusted sites list, disabling all security options for it, allowing ActiveX etc, but to no avail.

I'm kind of lost now, so hence why I come to OcUK for assistance! ;)

Cheers!

Are we talking a data access page written/generated by MS Access? If so what version of access was used to create it? Have you tried adding in a doctype tag to get it to switch to quirks mode when rendering (if the page was created for IE5.5/IE6, this will often fix it).

I did try compatibility mode, but it still didn't work on some machines.

I seem to have found a solution now - which is to install the Office XP Web Components (owc10.exe).

My guess is that the machines that were working have had this component installed somehow, and the ones that weren't working hadn't (possibly because of the different applications in use on the various machines)
