Access Denied

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get some data off an old IDE HDD I used on a previous setup (with a Windows XP Pro installation) but I can't access the My Documents area and other personal user areas as the access is denied.

I'm browsing the HDD from my new rig too.

How do I get around the access denied?

Boot into safe mode right click on folder - Sharing and Permissions - Add everyone for full control.

Would I have to boot off the original HDD? I think the Windows installation may be corrupted in some way.

nope boot into safe mode with your current os on then goto x:\Documents and Settings\"xxxxxxxxxxxx" xxx username

you'll probably need to take ownership of the files before you can add yourself with permissions. see here....

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up booting into safe mode (via msconfig), changing ownership and permissions to my administrators group and then manually copying the work across whilst still in safe mode.

Worked a treat cheers
