Access into/out of London

Worth pointing out that Uber Surge Pricing is often in force at that time of night in London, especially at the weekend. You can set up a notification to let you know when it has ended but there is no guarantee when that might happen. Surge Pricing can double or even triple the cost of a fare.

I usually just set up the notification and keep drinking until it ends :D

Might also be worth checking Addison Lee, you'll get a fixed price. Uber could really screw you over.

this

look on the Addison lee website and whack in your destinations:

www.addisonlee.com

should be about £40 from Soho to Heathrow

uber is on a meter (which is a bit dubious for a private hire firm but that is another topic) they could be cheaper but it depends on traffic and whether surge prices are in operation...

So if I get a quote from Addison lee that's what I pay?

I don't think I've ever heard of them :o

[edit]yes I have, I've seen the logo all over the place. You must use them regularly as its £40.30 :)

I used to use them a lot, back when they first had an iphone app with a 'find my location' button... was easy to get home when somewhere in central and drunk.

Have switched to Uber for most short trips now though but if traffic is heavy or surge is on then I use Addy Lee, ditto to pre-planned trips to the airport etc..

Apps Gett and hailo do fixed price black cab journeys to Heathrow. Can pay with card too ;). There's also promo codes for new users, I can get you one if you wish

Oh and google maps works with al the tfl/london public transport.

So stick journey in there with time departbor time you want to arrive and google wil come up with the best combined tube, train and buss route.

Largest private hire company in London. Service can be a bit variable.
Yeah. I used to use them for work with no real problems. However last time I used them was a bit of a nightmare. I was at my work's Christmas party, had prebooked for a 1.30am pickup in town.. I don't think I got picked up until 2.45am. Seriously tedious watching everyone else get picked up (the party had kicked out) and freezing my **** off. I was very thankful we had security guys making sure everyone got home alright, as there were plenty of loons around.

If you have your own car, you could park near osterley park, going up the A4, first road before the tube on your left, and get the tube there into town on the pick your willy line. This is what I sometimes do when geing to watch the footie in town. There are some parking restrictions during the day IIRC, but in the evening, you are fine.

What brings you around here Gilly? Business or pleasure?lol

As for Addison Lee. I hate that company with a passion. Abusive, irritating and annoying drivers. Their cars are all over this place always in the way slowing me down. A grenade launcher GTA style comes to mind!

I used uber for the first time last week, Victoria to Russian visa centre in Islington, a nice Toyota Prius turned up 90 seconds later, the driver said after 5 mins of driving that the route is full of traffic and we should go a different way than listed on the app, I thought *oh, here we go...* took about 35 mins to get there and price was only £13 something , which cost me nothing as I got £15 of credit for it being my first time :)

Uber in LA is incredible. I was using it for work but also had a free weekend. Did a trip to the Science Centre (downtown) from my hotel (Hollywood). Took 45mins in traffic and came to a grand total of $18. I almost felt sorry for the driver :p

EDIT: On the flipside I could not for the life of me get signal on either phone when I came out, so had to flag a yellow cab back. That cost me $45.

just be careful trying to get an uber on short journeys out of heathrow - we've got offices near there and they will generally reject the journey once they know your not going far. Heathrow express and an airport shuttle usually works well or get an Uber from a bit further out.
