Does anyone have a recommendation for a powerful access point to improve my poor WiFi. We have a large 5 bed house with solid walls. Want something with good range and decent speed.

The TP Link EAP240 is not doing much for us unfortunately.

I am UK based.

Thanks.

Two options:

AP installed centrally - requires a cable and either power from a socket nearby or PoE injector etc. my weapon of choice being an ‘old’ Unifi AP i’ve run for years, it’s only 2.4Ghz, but 2.4Ghz gives better coverage/range and the majority of Wi-fi usage is sub 15Mbit anyway for me. The AC Lite or better will do 5Ghz if you really want to.

Mesh system - it’s the hipster of home networking for those too lazy or unwilling to run a cable. As with all hipster technologies it’s pointless, over priced and largely unrequired if you did the job properly in the first place. Exceptions exist, for example if you live in a listed building spread out over say 3/4 of an acre, then mesh makes a lot of sense as it saves drilling holes etc.

Pfft.. tosh. I live in a Grade II listed house on a decent plot and have hardwired 3 UAPs. Old buildings have loads of gaps to route cables through without needing to drill holes. ;) :D

The things you'll do to avoid being branded a networking hipster :D
