hi

I have a router, with the ip address of 192.168.1.1

wanting to add a wireless switch / print server to this,

what I dont get is the ip address of the wireless print server is 192.168.0.1,

the print server can have its ip address changed to for example 192.168.1.50 to be on the same range

but does it need to be,

does adding an print server have to be on a different range

do I have to tell my pc the gateway is 192.168.0.1 so it looks for the wireless print server / switch and not the router

Keep everything on the same subnet, otherwise it will just complicate things greatly. If you can set the print server to use 192.168.1.x then do that.
 
I can set the printer server to 192.168.1.50, and the router stays on 192.168.1.1

when entering a static IP on my pc, do I tell it to look for the printer server/switch or tell it to look for the router.

Or does it not matter
 
How come you are entering a static IP on your PC?

Set the access point to 192.168.1.2 and the printer to 192.168.1.3. In the router make sure DHCP is enabled and starts from 192.168.1.10. Then when you install the printer, if it doesn't find it on the network already (make sure your PC and the printer have the same workgroup) then point it to 192.168.1.3.
