As title, I need to do this for my windows hs 2011 system, iv tried to setup the built in 'remote desktop' but it just doesn't work, and I don't think it would do what I want anyway - access the desktop as if I was there.

How can I do this? Any reliable 3rd party software?

I've recently used TeamViewer which is pretty good. The free version is limited (e.g. no FTP iirc but you can remote control another desktop).

Maybe you're thinking of LogMeIn. The free version of TV has file transfer.

Teamviewer is pretty great, especially for putting on relatives PC's (or Macs!). I usually find direct RDP is a bit smoother though, but requires port forwarding and remembering your static IP/setting up dyndns.

Another Teamviewer user here. Excellent software and IMO much better than logmein. Also there is a Teamviewer app for android phones that allows you to control your pc via your phone. It works very well.
