Accessing internal wiki through SSH

I'm able to access my work's server through an SSH tunnel and I can retrieve files fine.

The thing I'm struggling with is how to access the internal wiki which is hosted on the same server.

When at work I just type 'internal.local' into a browser and it loads but this obviously doesn't work from an external location.

I've tried all combinations of localhost and ip addresses and I'm getting nowhere.

What am I doing wrong?

ssh -L 80:localhost:80 [email protected]

Then navigate to http://localhost

If you're using name based virtual hosts then you'll need to add a hosts file entry like:
127.0.0.1 internal.local and go to http://internal.local

Alternatively, just get a VPN sorted?

Thanks Mike,

That's what I was doing wrong — trying to access the wiki without opening another tunnel.

Our IT guy says it's too much hassle to administer a VPN but at least I now know how to get it to work.
