Hi,

Probably an easy question but I don't want to wilf-up my itunes collection.

I have 2 networked mac minis, and a Netgear ReadyNAS.

My itunes collection is stored on the NAS and my 1st Mac Mini can access and play the stored songs with no problem.

I have recently bought a second mac mini. Could some one tell me

1) Is it possible to run itunes from the 2nd Mac using the itunes library on the server at the same time as the 1st Mac.

2) If 1 is do-able. How do I tell the 2nd Mac where the itunes library is stored (i.e. on the NAS).

Thanks in advance.

Not sure about two macs trying to use the same library at the same time. Never tried it myself.

As for the second mac, just hold alt or cmd or ctrl (I forget which :p) when you click to open iTunes. If you've done it right it'll ask you where the library file is.

Haven't tried that in case it wilfs-up and corrupts my itunes library.

I had a nasty experience trying to access my Outlook emails from two different networked PCs at the same time. Lost the lot!

I ensure I only ever use itunes on one mac at a time.

In the interests of science I just tried to access the itunes library from both my Macs at the same time.

As soon as one Mac accesses the ituned folder it locks it and prevents the other gaining access.

Luckily it has not appeared to corrupt the files!

Something to look at (if it suits) is iTunes home sharing. (http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3819)

I'm not fortunate enough to have two macs so I have no experience of how this works... just FYI.

I really wish that iTunes support watch folders like many other media players do. Then each Mac mini could have its own library files but with a single common location for the actual media.
