So my job that I gave up on the 19th September have paid money into my account this month. Pretty sure that's a mistake made by the company. If I put it into a savings account (just in case they ask for it back), is there a chance in 6 months time they will ask for it back?

I will be working at the same company as a christmas temp. It's so annoying because I'm pretty sure I will have to give it back and I am so skint, I could have done with the money :(

I'm hoping there is a magical law that says, if it's their mistake I don't have to give it back lol.. Anyone had this happen to them? Any advice would be appreciated.

Best to contatc them and ask, else you might get free money again next month and month after and so on.
You simply might have not been removed from the payroll at all.

Yeah I am definitely going to ring them. Sucks that there isn't a magical free money law though =p

Oh wells

Ah I know I didn't earn it lol the money would have been used to pay bills/rent etc.. no luxuries for me. Can't wait to finish university so that I can have a real job and a steady income =)

Did you actually think there would be?

Are you saying its fine to steal as long as you pay the bills with it? :p

Haha.. I suppose it did come across like that! I would never steal, got too much of a guilty conscience =) but if some sort of mistake were to happen where I acquired random money and it didn't effect anyone else, I wouldn't object to it.

I got a bonus 4 months after leaving a job once, rang them up and they let me keep it as i earnt it while i was there, also got a load of un used holiday paid to me, ring them, hope they are nice/or that you earnt it!

Keep quiet. It is their mistake to try and fix, wait for them to contact you.

I'm pretty sure that if requested to pay it back, you have to, unless by paying it back would put you in serious financial difficulties. But would have to go through the courts then.

If it was me, I wouldn't say anything till I was asked.

I vote for leftover holiday pay. If you take the advice of some here and call them to correct a potential mistake, be sure to bill them for your time and phone expenses etc.

just a thought, but were you paid 1 month in arrears?

I've left jobs like that and had pay the month after, its just having to work for 2 months before you get paid that is the pita :(
