What's quite cool is when you time it so the cider is below freezing, but the pressure keeps the liquids freezing point lower. Then when you take it out and open it you can watch the entire bottle freeze as the pressure is released and the freezing point returns to 0C. Try it!

As it defrosted it will have lost its fizz though, so you'll have had flat, tasteless cider. At least it would have been cold.

Exactly, I remember freezing bottles of cider by mistake when I was a lot younger. There was no hesitation whether or not that bottle of white lightning was getting drunk!
