After scouting for a new car, I have gained interest in these. An Integra Type-R is not practical for my needs, neither is a EP3 Type-R. The CH1 shape Accord ticks the boxes, as much as I like the looks of the Euro-R CL1's the euro specs are cheaper.

In terms of reliability and practicability what are they like? Are they high petrol drinkers or can you get good MPG. Did any of them have an issues with suspension, engine or bodywork corrosion? And last question, do they drop out of VTEC when changing gears at high rpm?

all I know is honda make some good reliable engines, they drink as much as any other 2000cc unless you drive everywere on vtec and it wont drop out of vtec unless the rpm drops to irc 6-7000rpm.

Essentially very good cars that handle very well for their size.

However they are old now and are tiring. Problems include 5th gear synchro's on the 1st Gen's and general notchiness in the gearbox if not looked after and/or driven hard.

Kit out is basic because A.) they are Honda's and B.) they are type R's

Recaro's come as standard and are good but not full on arse grabbers.

Engines are good and reliable but need to be treated well with frequent oil changes. Camshaft oil seals may cause problems.

Look out for tired suspension.

Will probably remember more later but a guy on here called Skywalker is your best bet. He's had about 9 of them.

How much do Syncro issues cost to fix, would you happen to know if it is an expensive job to fix?

Owned one in 2009 for a year fantastic car. Tyres arnt cheap managed to get a deal for £480 for 4. Regarding the gearbox think it was mainly the pre facelift that suffered from it,
5th and reverse synchro.
Definitely worth looking for one that has had the gearbox done, also as important to change the gearbox oil with engine oil and this helps eliminate the problem :)

It's essentially a gearbox out and rebuild during which you should probably change the clutch.

I'm far removed from Hondas/FWD but depending on location/garage I imagine £200-£300 to remove/refit.

Same again to rebuild a box, bout £50-£100 for the synchro.

£100-£150 for a clutch?

They are 215/45/17's so they are hardly particularly expensive - about right for this sort of car.

Was about to say. You can even get AD08s for £130 a corner fitted.

dont knock the nt5000s cracking budget tyre for the money, please at least do a bit of reading on neuton tyres before you dismiss them. have ran a few sets through on the taxi now and have to say they are just as good if not better than the falkens i favoured previously

had various on the vectra shed over the last couple of years from michelin primacys through umpteen sets of conti sport contacts uniroyals falkens which i felt were perfect in terms of price/performance ratio and with the dissaperance of the 452s i was pointed to the nt5000s which I have to say for the price are fantastic, sure their not right up there with the best of tyres but for my purposes they are a perfect combination of performance and price all i'm saying is that the OP if he doesnt forsee himself driving at 10/10's all the time should perhaps give them a once over

I find the snobbery in here a bit offputing to be honest, people who are wiling to denounce a tyre as poor only because it doesnt cost £100/corner. I really wish people would try something before they denounce them as rubbish,

Fox if your ever up in Glasgow pop round, you can have a shot of my vectra and give your feedback on a set of neutons. i'll even supply a balaclava so no one sees you driving a lesser marque :)

aww c'mon we all know he has a secret softspot for vauxhalls :)

This car needs good tyres - and a stiff sidewall on the fronts to get the most out of it.

Hondas need bridgestones or something similar with stiff sidewalls

Is there an echo in here? :p
