Is there an age limit to a post such as this? By the description it would be perfect for me, I meet all their criteria, I'm even already doing the training that they plan to put you through yet within 10 minutes of applying via e-mail as requested I got knocked back. Would it be because I'm 37?

You really need to provide more information as to what on earth you're talking about. What exactly is the post? What did they say in the e-mail? What sort of qualifications/prior work experience have you in your CV?

Post is accounts junior.
The e-mail stated "I would like to advise you that on this occasion your details are not amongst the most suitable for the role."
You needed no experience or prior training just good maths grades, It stated that they will pay for your training in accounts, something I am already doing off my own back.
I suppose the question is, does a junior position have an age limit? This is the only criteria I feel I don' meet. :)

I've been turned down for lesser positions, just move on to the next application and don't dwell on it too much. What's to say they were a good employer in the first place? :p

It's a pretty low end role, they will be concerned as to why somebody of your age wants such a role and will think its simply to fill a gap and you'll move on as soon as you find something better.

Which is true, right? I mean surely 37 isnt the time to start working as an accounts junior on 13k a year?

I've taken the opportunity to switch careers, I have the time to study for said career, the above position would have given me every bit of experience I would require to do my chosen career. To be honest I have yet to see any other way of gaining the experience I require apart from lying on my C.V, something I don't really want to do.

Don't include your DOB in your application? I believe they don't have a right to that information.

They will meet you at interview though so it's pointless withholding it, as it's just a waste of everyone's time if they're not going to hire a 37 year old no matter what. Fancy trying to hide your age to get a job just because the company you're applying for aren't legally entitled to know it?! Imagine recruiting and receiving an application from someone that refused to tell you their age! *bin*

OP - you said you've studied, what qualification are you working towards and how far down the line are you? You realise you'll probably be entering purchase ledger invoices and doing credit control etc.? Wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy!

You'd make a terrible employer. Your DOB does not need to, and should not appear on your CV.

Test them, and potentially make a lot of money when you sue them.

Put in an application with all of your previous experiences on, INCLUDING your age.

Also put in another with similar experiences, but put yourself as 10-15 years younger.

Should they shortlist the younger application, sue them for age discrimination.

Remember that it's illegal to discriminate based on age. I wouldn't put my DoB on my CV either - they shouldn't ask for it at interviews either.

OP should ask for feedback, I would guess they aren't stupid enough to say it's because you're too old though.

To be fair I've never bothered with my DOB on a CV either. Not sure how its relevant.

but let be fair, Mcdonalds are not going to care :)

They probably recruited / found someone internally.

No need to go all Sherlock Holmes on them :p

You can usually work it out from the qualifications section. IE if somebody went to college then graduated from Uni 5 years ago they are more likely to be under 30 than over 30, etc.

Do you do the hiring at McDonalds then out of interest?
