ACER DELIVERS WORLD'S FIRST 4k2k DISPLAY with NVIDIA® G-SYNC™

Also iiyama informed me today they have being testing G-Sync and stated that a system with a 780Ti and one of their 1ms 144Hz seemed to get little improvement from it.

That's disappointing to hear and probably not a good sign for AdaptiveSync either.

According to their announcement is a 3840x2160.

4K2K is the true name of the "standard" and 4K is the short version.
According to the standard 4K2K UHD comes in two resolutions. Either 3840x2160 or 4096x2160.

Now if price is good (around £800) I will strongly consider buying it if it has good picture. The reason is that even at 60Hz, GSync going to sort most of the issues out.

And those 60Hz on IPS or 4K is what has put me off from buying a new monitor.
The 3y old XL2410T, might have insane light bleed and bad colours, but everything runs smooth at 120hz. Tried 60hz and 75hz monitors, and I could see the difference, so no thanks.

As for what Gibbo said about the iiyama, I find it right. GSync is good for 60-85hz, and for those type of monitors was the initial announcement back in October 2013.
(remember Nvidia presentation was repeating the 60hz monitor issue).

On 120hz or 144hz monitor is not needed and is bit "too much".

Disabling vertical sync is a huge brick unattached to my mouse at 60hz. If Gsync is indeed removing this then that is huge. Maybe those people play with vsync off and put up with tearing? If so all they gain is less tearing and might go "meh" everyone else who feels plagued by vsync should be up in arms about finally waving goodbye to vertical sync and pre rendered frames.

Note that vsync could account for 40% of all lag on a game as Razer mice and keyboards at 1000hz are 1ms and the displays own millisecond count would be single digits. Add in cpu latency and you have your computers reaction time while gaming. Now add in Vsync triple buffered at 60hz which is 16.7ms alone without double buffering so 32ms saved by removing vsync.

What games do you see any significant screen tearing on? Only ones I've seen are DayZ (horrific optimisation and a renderer that's soon to be replaced) and Wolfenstein (typical Bethesda launch bug / lack of optimisation fest). If one could actually run DayZ at high FPS, or Wolfenstein didn't have the stupid 60fps console cap, then I'd keep both uncapped still, even if screen tearing persisted, and I certainly wouldn't EVER lower the refresh rate lower than the native 144hz. I can't imagine any amount of screen tearing could ever look worse or be harder on the eyes than 60hz vs 144hz.

I'm inclined to believe iiyama (who presumably aren't being slung marketing $$$ by NVIDIA), as screen tearing isn't an issue I've had much problem with, and I know very few people who've complained about it of late, before Wolfenstein.

I really don't think I am gong to buy anything until the end of the year now. Too many big updates which could potentially last for a long time. A variable refresh rate 4k monitor would last me years.

AU Optronics are due to release a 32" 4k panel in Q3, a monitor based on that panel combined with the new DP1.2a Adaptive Sync or G-Sync would get me to upgrade frmo my Dell 30"

I think some people are missing the point of what this type of tech is trying to do. First of all, for some people (like me) ANY amount of tearing is not acceptable... so currently I suffer vsync lag, which is only marginally more acceptable. I am totally willing to pay a little bit extra for a smoother, lower lag experience.

Second, this tech means that you don't notice FPS dips as much - again, this is highly personal as to what is acceptable, but a lot of people who have tested this type of tech are saying that it is potentially a massive improvement. If you think, this could make the difference between needing or not needing a 2nd GPU, spending an extra £50-100 on a monitor that should last 3-4 generations of GPU, you could be saving £400+ on a 2nd GPU every gen, or getting a mid range card instead of a top end card.

This tech is not all things to all people, if you are quite happy to get a low resolution screen but with a very high refresh and then spend whatever it takes to get the GPU's to drive it to keep them locked at 144hz (or already have that setup) then no it isn't going to give you a huge improvement.

I don't know what the split is like on people who will happily spend double on GPU's compared with a little extra on a monitor that will last several GPU upgrades, or who is prepared to put up with artefacts vs those that don't, all I can say is that *I* would like a 4K Gsync monitor, so this thread is of interest to me and info on this monitor is of interest.

I don't really understand why you feel the need to go in to every Gsync thread and keep changing your mind between bigging up AMD's version (on the basis that you think it is "open" despite AMD saying it uses "secret sauce" that only exists in the very latest AMD cards), or saying that this type of tech is pointless... for someone who seems to now think that any of this type of tech is pointless you seem to go out of your way to force this opinion on other people.

For me personally this could potentially be an easier overall route(on the wallet) into 4K gaming because of G-SYNC. Cant wait for some reviews. :D

I feel like im the only person that just cant see tearing, at all!
What does get me is stutter and at the moment im playing through the misery mod for s.t.a.l.k.e.r and the stutter here is crazy.

Any news on when you might stock these Gibbo?

I think 4k resolution is playing in an area where Gsync will be of significant benefit due to frame rates.

Holding of on buying 4k to get this model
