Do Acer laptops have a restore facility? Mate has a 2 year old one and he is not sure. Thought i would ask on here before i go and take a look at it. Thanks

Anyone else?

So can we assume that it doesn't have a hidden restore partition or are you just ignoring that response?

Model of Laptop would be helpfull as would checking the documentation that came with the laptop, which is usually also on the laptop itself, might I suggest that a good look at the Start>All Programs list is a good place to start?

Don't know what model it is. Just trying to get some general info as mate is away so can't tell me anything about laptop! He has left it at his house of which i have the key and going there later.

most acer laptops ask you to make a set of backup/restore cds/dvds on first boot up
when you had the laptop new. so if you didn't make a set then your best bet is
to contact acer for info on how to get a set of restore cds/dvds.

or you could just use an MS OS with your MS key and download the drivers from there site.

I've had two Acer laptops and in both cases there is a hidden partition which can be booted using ALT+F10 as previously stated. The prompt for this could be enabled or disabled in the BIOS, (D2D recovery I think).

Note though that its my understanding that if you have done anything which alters the MBR then this will not work as you will have removed the entry which makes it possible to use. Other than that my older Acer came with a set of recovery cds and also prompted to create a set of recovery disks on first boot. My new one just had a Anytime upgrade Vista DVD with it.

If you have still got the recovery partition but have lost the MBR entry which allows you to use it then I think there is something you can do to recreate it my getting access to the hidden partition and then using an utility with a MBR image on there to rewrite the MBR as it's shipped default ... but I read that quite a while ago and I seem to remember it was the result of quite a bit of Google-ing
