Here and There...
I've had my R3610 for over a year now and have been really happy with it, however I recently setup a home server so no longer have any need of storage space on the Revo. I am toying with the idea of swapping the existing seagate 5400 RPM 500GB drive for a Western Digital Scorpio Black 160GB 7200RPM. Would the speed improvement be worth the £35 outlay mius what ever I can get back for my existing hard drive on the members market?

On this system i doubt you would notice any difference tbh. They are all laptop drives and the read/write times between the 5400 and 7200 are not much different. The only way you would see an improvement is to go SSD, but then you are talking about high cost.

Also, just to be warned, changing the hard drive in the Revo is a right pain as it is screwed to the motherboard on from the back, so you have to remove the whole motherboard to get to it.

I think you should just stick to the 500GB drive myself.

I've watched the videos and it does seem to be an unnecessary hastle! I keep reading about people putting 7200 drives in laptops and being blown away by the speed increase but like you say the figures don't really add up which was why I asked the question. It would be a very cheap swap as I'd probably get a reasonable amount back for the 500GB drive but will it be worth the effort?

SSD is a great idea but given that my main rig is a dual core 939 opteron I could probably spend that sort of money much more productively else where!

I have to say that the Atom chip is where the slowness really is.
I had a Revo and changed to a Mini-ITX atom based machine with an SSD and tbh i still find it too slow. I have just ordered a Sandy Bridge 2600 and an H67 motherboard to replace it with.
