Hi,

Last December I bought an Acer 5633 I've had no problems with it till now

About 4 maybe more months ago I got a tiny bit of water on/behind the screen which meant there was a visible water mark constantly but I learnt to live with it but last week a full row of dead pixels appeared on my screen I phone Acer up and I was told they would send a box and a e-mail but I've had no box or e-mail to send it off.

I'm starting to think that they will not replace the screen and blame the fault on the water mark even though I have read about this problem on various sites.

If I do send it off and they say it's my fault I have the pay postage both ways + a £55 fee

Have acer confirmed that it is a fault they will replace for free? I don't think their warrenty covers damaged tft's (broken) but if it has failed they might replace it.

Acer support should have discussed with you how to contact DHL to arrange pickup on their account. as for a box, just find something large enough for the laptop and 3-4" worth of packing on each side. Did you mention to them the watermark, or just that the screen failed?

I don't have an Acer but I'd be interested to hear what people think of their support. Their prices are good, but maybe it's at the support time that you notice why.

Amongst notebook manufacturers, Toshiba appears to offer good support.

Have/Do either of you own an Acer at all?

I used to work for Acer in their UK Repair Centre / Customer support line (Kind of an oxy moron). Worked there for 3 months before I managed to escape. I have posted here before about the standard of Acer support on Acer products and lets just say I would never ever ever buy an Acer.

Cheers,

I used to work for Acer support for 3 years till about three years ago when they moved to Plymton, their hardware is good and they are one of the biggest laptop sellers around, however, their support is terrible, the amount of times a machine would go missing or take months to repair was horrble. If they even see the slightest sign of your watermark, they will tell you it is not warrantied for repair for the screen.

Hi mate,

I was with them after they moved. I was putting part of the problems down to them having just relocated from Northern Ireland but it doesnt seem to have improved since and from what your saying it wasnt any better before
