Acer XB323QK NV - 4k 31.5" 144Hz

I've been waiting for years for a 4k high-refresh-rate monitor that's good quality and 32-40". There have been multiple announcements of such monitors before, but every single one has failed to materialize. I hope this one is different, but I doubt it.

4K 32" high refresh is certainly long overdue. August is the date rumoured, but no sign yet. I don't expect this will be cheap though, circa £1500 I suspect.

Well, it's the end of August and no sign whatsoever - I had my hopes up for this one as it hadn't been announced many months in advance (like the "big brother" Predator X32, for example).

I'm sure these 32", 144Hz panels will surface eventually, but goodness knows what the delay is. I could understand the X32 (announced before all the lockdowns), but this cut-down version was announced during the pandemic...

All I know is that the XB280HK I bought back in 2014 has done sterling service, but it's time for an upgrade: higher framerates and IPS. 32" would be perfect (28" is fine for 4K, but an extra few inches won't hurt) and it's astonishing that it's taken 6 years for them to appear...
Unless things change, it also implies that these 32"/144Hz panels will last just as long...

(There have, of course, been those 27" high-refresh monitors - but I'm not going to downgrade my screen size. There are also those TVs-thinly-disguised-as-monitors, the whacking great 43" ones with the weird BGR layout, but they're too big and the text rendering is sub-optimal).

I'm not sure we will see this in 2020. I'd like to be wrong, but would be quite unusual for this to suddenly appear in retail channels after only being announced in June. Not usually how it works with monitors, but we shall see. This will definitely be north of £1K anyway, given the 27" very similarly spec'd variant is circa £900.

This German site mentions Q1 2021;

Well spotted!

Given the complete lack of info elsewhere, Q1 2021 would seem reasonable. I would expect the "full fat" X32 to come out first, in time for Christmas, to scoop up those buyers who have £3500 or so spare, then, once that's out, the "cut down" XB323QK to appear.

It did seem odd that the cheaper of the two would be the first to appear, the danger for Acer being that people would buy the cheaper one and thus skip the more expensive flagship model.

There's also a price mentioned, €1099. That's £983 at the moment, but goodness knows what'll happen in January in terms of the exchange rate!

Different markets imho, if you're thinking about a £3.5k monitor that is very specialist territory.

I bet there is some kind of relationship between Nvidia and AU Optronics going on. Asus is doing some launch events this week we might see something as they tend to use the exact same panels.

I don't know. As above, very different market and someone looking at the X32 at £3500 isn't going to consider the XB323QK. I'd hope precisely because it will be the first "affordable" 32" 144Hz monitor on the market, they will want it out there as soon as possible, so we could very well see it before the X32.

£1500 is too much though. I would get the 48" OLED at that price. It needs to be closer to £1K, so hopefully that €1099 is accurate. Given this is basically the same spec as the 27" 144Hz you can buy now, just bigger, there wouldn't be any justification for a 50% price premium over it. Doesn't mean they won't try though.

Lack of HDMI 2.1 on this with new cards imminent is a shame, but I don't think anyone was expecting that. Still, it's odd and frustrating we have several TV's on the market now with HDMI 2.1, and no monitors (nor even any affordable ones announced), despite the latest GPU tech set to feature the technology. :(

For as long as 4K120 or 4K144 works over DP1.4 I wouldn't really care for HDMI 2.1... 48" is too big, I already have three 32" 4K60 screens. I was even considering one big 8K screen instead of a multi-screen setup, but having separate screens is sometimes useful. Time for more Herz.

If these are closer to £1500...might as well get the CX48 instead imho
Too big for desktop use unfortunately I've measured it up. Don't get me wrong as a TV with some distance between you and the screen I'm sure its great but most desktop use you're an arm length's distance away and that would be horrible for First Person probably ok for flight and space sims though.

I would imagine more and more announced monitors will have HDMI 2.1 as it will also bypass the DP bandwidth issues

I'm sure, but how long will they take to actually become available is the question. I'm struggling to think of a monitor release in recent years that hasn't been delayed, some tremendously so.

That’s true but GPU tech drives monitors connection tech. Now It’s is on the 3000 series and soon to be on the AMD 6000 series. The new high res and high refresh displays will start to have them. Even ASus have already announced a 4K hdmi 2.1 that’s been certified.

It is exciting times
