Can I connect my pda to my laptop using ad-hoc and then just enable ics on the laptop and start using the internet on the pda?

i think he's asking if he can use his phone as a modem for the laptop

which you can if you have the relevant software. My nokia N70 came with the Nokia suite (cant remember its name) but in that it included the ability to use your phone as a modem

but you'll be charged at £1 per 1mb probably so be warned !

I have a laptop connected to my lan via ethernet, I want to set up an ad-hoc connection between my laptop and my pda, so I can check email, browse the internet etc on my pda when about the house.

It's an xdaIIi, pretty much every windows 2003 and above pdas support ad-hoc over wifi. There an option for it when I go to add new connection.

EDIT- I've got it connected now but can't work out how to share the internet. :p

Which 2 connections do I need to bridge?

I have the "internet connection", then "local area connection", "wireless network connection" "1394 connection" and "local area connection 2".

No idea what 1394 is, it just comes up when I switch wireless on, and lan connection 2 says network cable unplugged, bluetooth lan access server.

I'm guessing you're connected to your router or modem using one of those connections. Right click it and whichever one of them is your internet connection, double check it has an IP to be sure. Then just click the internet connection, ctrl+ right click the wireless connection, click bridge. Job done :)
