I posted up during the week but my aches and pains in my legs are still there.

Basically last week i played a lot of football, 5 days of the week and on the following Tuesday after my first 11 a side match in 5 years my legs ached like hell.

I went to training on Wednesday night and my legs were still aching. I skipped football on Friday night, but if i jog or walk now they still hurt. I understand that this is lacted(?) acid. I have a match tomorrow (possibly two) and i have to play. I can't let the team down, but i need to get rid of these aching legs. I haven't done anything since Wednesday night.

Should i do loads of stretching today and jump straight in a cold water bath? Should i go for a light cycle ride? On Wednesday i spent a long time stretching out with no change, legs still hurt to run on.

Pathetic really and i have never suffered from it before.

Well your body is telling you you are over doing it. Your either not training enough or your training too much. I would suggest, by the sounds if it, you have played 5 days football and an 11-aside match for the first time in years, that you are over doing it. Hardly surprising your body is screaming for you to stop.

Lactic acid build up has nothing to do with it.

Well from my experience you will be much stronger after the pain goes. I've over done it many times and this seems to be how the body responds. As long as you keep the football up you won't have to go through that again.

Yeah, I had the same thing with squash. Could barely move my right arm for the next few days after playing for the first time in a while and getting quite into it :p

Also the first time I played golf, doing 300-400 balls on the driving range, really made my torso ache.

Once you've done that, it's better.

Probably over doing it, your right. So how can i make sure i will be ok for the match tomorrow, actually i have two matches, one after the other.

Cold bath tomorrow morning before the match? Lots of stretching?! Really need some advice please folks, desperate to play tomorrow.

Slightly off topic but has anyone seen any benefits of taking glucosamine and chondroitin?

Am approaching 30 now and my flexibility isn't what it used to be. Also my knees are killing when I am squatting. Was wondering if some sort of cod liver oil or glucosamine/chondroitin stack would help?

Yes it definately helps but you need to take them together in my exerience and take them everyday for weeks before you feel any benefit. They also cost an absolute fortune unless you buy in bulk form. MSM is another one that can be added to this stack.

Fish oils will also help, I'd stay away from Cod Liver Oil and just stick to normal fish oil. Reason is you need to take a few a day. I don't think it's a good idea necking loads of Cod Liver Oil as it's very rich in vitamin A & D.

Jelly is another one that could be good for the joints as it contains gelatin.

Cheers mate, thanks for the info.

Your not wrong about the price of glucosamine and chondroitin

Where do you think the cheapest place to get them is? Best I have found is simplysupplements.net

I had a similar problem once. I was rather unfit at one point, not exercising at all, did a lot of running one day playing football and was sore in the legs for about 2 weeks. Thought there was something wrong with me but it cleared up. :p

The glucosamine and MSM are cheap, it's the chondoitin that's expensive.

There are ways of going about it. Try your luck with the two cheaper ones see if they help. In my experience they don't, the glucosamine works synergistically with chondroitin. I was very sceptical of them after the glucosamine did nothing for me but as with a few things, the good stuff only happens when taking them together.

You don't need as much of the chondroitin as the other two. So what I do to save myself some money is buy 100g Chondroitin, 200g Glucosamine, 200g MSM and mix them all up. This gives you 500g for about £25. This will last you absolutely ages.

If you goto Holland & Barrett you'll see they sell 60 tabs (1g each) for £20 so it's a huge saving! :)

Not that good. Well underdosed, notice how there's only 50mg of chondroitin per tab? Then padded them out with the much cheaper MSM and Glucosamine. Also what are Boswellia and shark cartilage for?

Yeah this is the problem I have - it's a bit like a vicious circle, if you are really unfit then it makes it harder to do the physical activity necessary to rectify the situation.
